New Milestone: Engineering at BISTU Ranking Top 1% of ESI

Beijing, 12th July, 2021 (BISTU) BISTU Engineering ranks top 1% of the world, according to the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) published by Clarivate Analytics on 8th July 2021. It marks a new milestone that engineering discipline at BISTU has been an internationally high-level one, a new breakthrough in academic discipline construction.  

In total 342 higher educational institutions based in mainland of China rank 1% of the world (Peking Union Medical College counted as a university and Peking Union Medical College Hospital as an educational institution and the two are counted respectively). This year’s list sees three new members, i.e. BISTU, Changchun University of Technology, and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).  

 

According to the latest published data of ESI (data valid from 1st January 2011 to 30th April 2021), 7,264 institutions of the world are included in ESI. BISTU ranks 5,666 with 1,643 journal articles and 9,193 citation counts (by others than the authors).  

Essential Science Indicators is an analytical tool that helps researchers identify top-performing research, evaluate research performance, and keep track of the latest development trend of science development. Focusing on 22 academic disciplines, ESI gathers and analyzes statistical data of articles and reviews by authors in all higher educational institutions and research institutes of the world published and included in ESI in recent 10 years. Based on six indexes, i.e., the number of papers, citations, average citations per paper, papers with high numbers of citations, hot papers, and papers in frontier areas, it offers an overall evaluation on research level, academic reputation of an institution, impact of scientists, and academic level of academic journals. It has been widely accepted that an academic discipline ranking top 1% in ESI is an internationally high-level one.
