School of Computer Science

The history of the School of Computer Science traces back to 1978, when the Computer Software Department of the Second Subordinate School of Peking University was established. 

The School of Computer Science offers undergraduate programs - Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, and Network Engineering. The School of Computer Science has the authority to award masters degrees in the 1st level disciplines Computer Science & Technology and Software Engineering as well as professional master degrees in the Computer Technology. Under the 1st level disciplines that confer master degrees, there are four 2nd lvel disciplines - Computer System Infrastructure, Computer Software & Theory, Computer Application Technology, and Web Search & Content Understanding. 

There are about 1440 undergraduate students at the School of Computer Science. The School also admits about 60 graduate students each year. There are 68 faculty and staff at the School, among whom there are 9 professors and 20 associate professors. 21 faculty members are master student supervisors. Many faculty members have been awarded honorable titles such as Young and Middle-aged Backbone Teachers of Colleges of Beijing Municipality, Young Academic Leaders of Colleges of Beijing Municipality, and Excellent Teachers of Beijing, etc.  

The Experimental Teaching Center of the School has been named as an Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Beijing Municipality. The Center consists of a number of teaching laboratories including microprocessor and interface technique laboratory, computer fundamentals laboratory, EDA/monolithic machine laboratory, computer software technology laboratory, embedded systems laboratory, computer network security laboratory, computer network engineering laboratory, computer cluster laboratory, and computer application laboratory.  

The School of Computer Science also has the following research laboratories and research institutes: Internet Culture and Digital Dissemination Research Laboratory – Key Laboratory of Beijing Municipality, Computer Open System Laboratory, Virtual Reality and System Simulation Research Laboratory, Intelligent Information Processing Laboratory, Voice and Signal Processing Laboratory, and Software Engineering Research and Development Center. In addition to these, the school has built long term cooperative relationships with tens of research institutes and famous companies in China. The off-campus production experiment training base co-established by the School and the Northern China Institute of Computing Technology is a Model Laboratory of Off-campus Talent Training for Higher Education Institutions of Beijing Municipality.  

The School of Computer Science is actively engaged in international exchange and cooperation. The School has launched cooperation programs with University College Cork and Griffith College Dublin of Ireland, Anglia Ruskin University of the United Kingdom, Bond University of Australia, etc., in the areas of undergraduate and postgraduate study as well as staff level research cooperation. The School also invites professors from Northwestern University of the U.S. to teach graduate courses.
