Zhang Wenzhong Appointed as Adjunct Professor of BISTU

Beijing, 3rd January, 2020 (BISTU)— The ceremony of appointment of Dr. Zhang Wenzhong as adjunct professor of BISTU, attended by President Wang Yongsheng, Vice President Yu Shijie, Director Chen Xin of Human Resources Office, all deans of School of Information Management, representatives of faculties, department chairs of the School and other relating faculties and staff and hosted by Vice President Yu Shijie, successfully concludes on 3rd January 2020.    

On behalf of BISTU, Yu Shijie firstly extends warm greetings to Dr. Zhang Wenzhong and offers a brief introduction to the University. An introduction to Dr. Zhang Wenzhong is delivered by Chen Xin who announces that Dr. Zhang is appointed as an adjunct professor of BISTU.

Wang Yongsheng briefly talks about the history of BISTU. It is hoped that Prof. Zhang Wenzhong would support School of Information Management with great vitality in respect of academic discipline construction and talent cultivation. Says Wang Yongsheng.  


Zhang Wenzhong expresses that BISTU enjoys a long history and has been playing an important role in national construction. He is truly honored to be appointed as an adjunct professor of BISTU, with support of BISTU senior administrators and Dean Zhang Yangsen. He also mentions development of Wumart and Dmall, the two enterprises of his which have successfully transferred from informatization to digitization and achieved progress both online and offline.  



Meeting  between Zhang Wenzhong and Wang Yongsheng & Yu Shijie 

Dr. Zhang Wenzhong is the founder of Wumart (one of the largest supermarkets in China) and Chairman of the Board of Dmall, guest professor of Nankai University and Renmin University of China, and life member of Board of Trustees of Nankai University. He was once a member of the 10th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a standing member of the 9th All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, a member of the 12th Beijing Municipal People's Congress, and Vice Chairman of the 11th Beijing Municipal Federation of Industry and Commerce. He was granted the award “Achievements of Excellence for Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars” by six ministries of Central Government in 2003. And in 2004 he was honored by five ministries of Central Government in the first cohort of “Excellent Builders of Socialist Course with Chinese Characteristics”. And he has also won a series of honors in industries such as “Man of the Year in Chinese Retail Industry”, “Top Ten Men of the Year in Chinese Economy 2018”, “Man of the Year in Chinese Retail Chains Industry 2019”, “Top 25 Most Influential Enterprise Leaders of China”, etc.  

Dr. Zhang Wenzhong has worded for Development Research Center of the State Council. In practice, he innovates and develops the theories on information technology and has won a number of awards on national and provincial level in respect of science and technology progress. In 1994 he founded Wumart, the first modern supermarket in Beijing and the leading role in development and technology innovation in Chinese retail industry. The year 2014 sees his foundation of Dmall, a distributed e-commerce serving and cooperating with over 80 large-scale retailers. It aims at integration of online and offline businesses, facilitate modernization of Chinese business circulation, and promote transformation of physical economy with innovation.
