Lesson One of BISTU in 2020 Successfully Completes

Beijing, 6th September, 2020 (BISTU)— Lesson One for the new semester of 2020, delivered by Secretary Wang Chuanliang of CCP BISTU Committee and President and hosted by Deputy Secretary Zhou Zhicheng of CCP BISTU Committee, successfully completes on 6th September 2020 at Xiaoying Campus.  

 

The lecture is delivered by a combination of main-venue with online teaching. The main venue is set on auditorium of Xiaoying Campus and attended by all senior administrators of BISTU, deans of schools, directors of all divisions, and representatives of students.  

 

Centering on the theme “Carrying Forward the Spirit of Combating Coronavirus Epidemic, Build the Best University, and Achieve the Best We Can”, Wang Chuanliang delivers the Lesson One in three aspects: 

Firstly, we shall deeply understand the spirit and educational implications of China combating the coronavirus epidemic. Wang Chuanliang points out that the live practice of China combating the coronavirus epidemic shows us the answers to the questions: why Marxism work, why Chinese Communist Party is competent, and why socialism with Chinese characteristics is superior. It fully highlights the strong power of our spirit, which is epitomized in the governing idea of “putting people first, putting life first”. Particularly it shows China’s profound cultural heritage and cultural confident. Wang Chuanliang explains the live practice of China combating the coronavirus epidemic from five aspects, i.e., ideal and faith education, life education, science education, law education, and value education.  

Secondly, we shall use dialectical thinking to understand the macro-situation of current world. Wang Chuanliang offers a detailed analysis on the unprecedented changes of the world which has not been seen in centuries. Wang Chuanliang points out that turbulence and reform in international situation contrasts with the new phase of quality, stable development in China and that other parts of the world trapped in the epidemic contrasts with successful containment of the epidemic in China. Indeed the epidemic has incurred great losses to Chinese economy. However, it also brings new opportunities for transformation and upgrade of industries. Higher education is now facing with a new situation and new requirements, which poses new challenges to development of the University and brings new opportunities to BISTU in respect of strengthening the feature in information technology, enhancing our academic competence, and realizing the supernormal, big-stride development.  

And thirdly, all faculties, staff and students shall spare no efforts to build the best university and achieve the best we can. Wang Chuanliang emphasizes that we shall look at development of the University from a macroscopic, comprehensive, dynamic, or even emotional and spiritual perspective. Recent years have witnessed great improvement on “construction of five environments” and the University is now on a smooth path of development. To achieve the goal of building a high level university with distinctive features in information technology, we still have a long way to go and quite a few practical barriers to conquer. And thus solidarity of all faculties, staff and students becomes very necessary so that we will achieve successive successes.   

Wang Chuanliang stresses that we have a bright future and each of us shall participate in, be responsible for, and contribute to the future of the University. Culture is the soul of a university. We shall form the university culture with our unique characteristics. Then a collective personality of the University would be established symbolized by the humanity and science spirit of positivity. And we will be able to successfully build an atmosphere of enjoying our own achievements, sharing with others, being happy for achievements of others and helping each other”.  

Wang Chuanliang points out that the mission of education with focus on morality is a great one for the University. Education is to make preparations for a better life and to cultivate people’s sense of fulfillment, love of life, and love of beauty. With regard to all around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labor education, the key to aesthetics education lies in its practicality. Intelligentsia shall follow the natural laws of the universe, be concerned about lives of people, proudly inherit the fine traditional Chinese culture, and build a peaceful and better world. We are to build an environment of warmth, inclusiveness, and respect. We appreciate each other’s progresses and we compete with each other in an orderly way. On a platform of rule of law and humanity concerns, our emotional power will converge to make new achievements.  

 

Themed on “Mission, Responsibility, and Accountability”, Wang Yongsheng summarizes epidemic containment of the University and raises requests on normalization of epidemic containment and development of the University in his Lesson One.  

Firstly, national mission and responsibility: combating the coronavirus epidemic highlights the accountability of China as a great power. Wang Yongsheng points out that Chinese people combating the coronavirus epidemic in Wuhan and Beijing makes Chinese speed and Chinese strength more salient. Following the principle of building a community of shared future for mankind, China displays the accountability of a great power. The practice of combating the epidemic clearly states that comprehensive leadership of the Party is the firm guarantee of the victory against the epidemic. The socialism with Chinese characteristics is the key support for our victory. The fundamental cause of our victory is the people-centered value. And unity and solidarity of the nation in hard times is the powerhouse of our victory.  

Secondly, responsibility and accountability of the University: bravely facing with difficulties and finally winning the battle against the coronavirus epidemic. Wang Yongsheng points out that CCP BISTU Committee has been dedicated to leading the whole university in combating the epidemic since the very beginning. All working groups coordinate with each other and make their own contributions to epidemic containment in Beijing. Now facing with a post-epidemic era, we shall think about a new question: how to quickly and better adapt ourselves to reform and changes so as to enhance our educational quality. Efforts of all are still required in respect of party building, online teaching, university governance, academic research, timely response to new model of education, facilitating combination between education and industries, enhancement of management and service, and shouldering social responsibilities.  

And thirdly, future responsibilities and requirements: raising our morale and pulling together in times of hardship. Wang Yongsheng raises requests on normalization of epidemic containment and development of the University. Wang Yongsheng points out that each student, faculty and staff of BISTU, in the New Era, shall keep up pace with the times, rationally think about changes on the world, love our country, and lay emphasis on studies and research. Students shall live up to the youth and make even better preparations for shouldering greater historical, social responsibilities in the future.  

President Wang Yongsheng’s Lesson One ends with an excerpt of lyrics of “We are Together”, a theme song composed by Liu Zhaozhe from School of Economics and Management for epidemic containment.
