Wang Yongsheng Host Meeting on Issues of Academic Research and Industrial Development

Beijing, 25th March, 2020 (BISTU)— In light of the demand of the new situation coming along with the epidemic of novel coronavirus, President Wang Yongsheng hosts a special meeting on 24th March 2020 on issues of academic research and industrial development. The meeting is attended by Vice President Chen Gang and directors of General Administration Office, Office for Scientific Research, Institute of National Defense Science and Technology, and Division of Industrial Development.

 

Wang Yongsheng positively comments that all divisions in this regard have done a good job in facilitating development of academic research at the University and raise some specific requests. Wang Yongsheng points out that issues relating to science and technology offer important support with quality development of the University, improve of education, facilitation of academic discipline construction, and strengthening reputation of the University. They also represent the core competitiveness of BISTU. During containment of the epidemic, all divisions and offices shall continue to pay great attention to management and safety of all labs. Meanwhile, for research projects and other special projects, special approvals would be granted to minimize the influence of the epidemic. 

 

When talking about development of science and technology at the University, Wang Yongsheng stresses that firstly we shall seize opportunities that some state-level and provincial level key projects are currently at BISTU. Utilizing such precious opportunities would help greatly enhance our capabilities in shouldering key research projects. It would also lay solid foundation for successful completion of the 13th Five-Year Plan and quality development of the 14th Five-Year Plan. Secondly, we shall strengthen construction of research platforms. Decision-making power would be empowered to research institutes in respect of talent introduction and admissions of postgraduate students. Inter-school sharing of academic resources would be promoted and encouraged in university key research institutes. And all are encouraged to file application of higher level labs. Thirdly, we are to strengthen construction of Institute of National Defense Science and Technology to highlight its features and strengths in military industry. Fourthly, we are to further regulate management of school-run enterprises and facilitate commercialization of academic research achievements. Fifthly, research environment is to be further optimized and motivation and appraisal system of academic research is to be perfected so that initiative and creativity of research staff would be brought into full play. Sixthly, attention will also be paid to Academic Affairs Committee, i.e., regulating procedure of discussions and meeting, strengthening academic atmosphere, etc. And seventhly, innovation team of academic research will be encouraged and motivated.

Chen Gang explains details on “building grand platforms, conducting grand projects, building large teams, and making major achievements”. He also raises specific requests on overall planning, optimization of research layout, and orderly development of academic research.
