Beijing, 26th May 2022 (BISTU)--- “A smart microhydrogel membrane sensor realized by pipette tip” by Associate Professor Li Yansheng of BISTU-based Beijing Key Lab of Sensors was published on Biosensors and Bioelectronics, a world top journal of this area. BISTU was the first and correspondence institution of the essay.
The Paper described a simple and practical way to prepare hydrogel membranes in a conical channel (pipette tip). It used a pipette to create a gas pressure difference on both sides of the gel precursor, which drove the gel precursor to move in the pipette tip. During movement, the shape of the hydrogel precursor gradually becomes thinner as the radius of the tapered channel becomes larger. This method of preparing the hydrogel membrane sensor does not rely on professional membrane production equipment and complex molecular design processes and has high gel utilization and simple and controllable membrane thickness. Meanwhile, the wide range (500 nM-500 mM) and high sensitivity detection of potassium ions was realized by an intelligent DNA aptamer and fluorescent imaging system. Therefore, this technical proposal is expected to be of wide interest to researchers in the field of smart hydrogel sensing.
Biosensors and Bioelectronics, with impact factor reaching 10.618, is one of the world top journals in biochemical sensors.

BISTU Lab of Sensors was established in 1985 and is now a Beijing Key Lab with research strengths in inertia, acoustics, electrochemistry, and biochemical sensor.
Joining BISTU in 2019, Associate Professor Li Yansheng has chaired and participated in 3 projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation, two general projects, and one BISTU key project. His research interests include portable biochemical sensors and nanomaterials. He has published a number of papers, as the first author and the correspondence author, on top journals such as Nature Communication, Lab on A Chip, Sensors and Actuators B-Chemical, etc.
