Beijing, 11th May 2026 (BISTU)--- Doctoral dissertation defense 2026 successfully concluded at College of Instrument Science and Opto-electronics Engineering on 10th May. It is the first doctoral dissertation defense for doctoral candidates of BISTU, symbolizing a new-phase in cultivation of high-level talents.

The Defense strictly followed all standard procedures to make sure it is open, fair and just. The Doctoral Dissertation Defense Committee is composed of Prof. Zeng Zhoumo of Tianjin University (Chair of the Committee), Prof. Li Xiaoli of Beijing University of Technology, Prof. Chen Hongfang of Beijing University of Technology, and two Ph.D. supervisors of the College.

During the defense, four doctoral students from the School of Instrument Science and Opto-Electronics Engineering, i.e., Du Jinyi, Wang Le, Wang Ziwei, and Zhang Hongshun, respectively delivered a presentation of approximately 30 minutes on significance of the research, core research content, research methodology, and academic innovations. The members of the defense committee listened attentively, asked in-depth questions regarding the academic merit, originality, and rigor of the dissertations, and provided targeted academic guidance and suggestions for improvement.

After full discussion and an anonymous vote, the defense committee members unanimously agreed that all four doctoral students had passed their dissertation and recommended that they be awarded doctoral degrees. The four doctoral students expressed sincere thanks to the defense committee. They stated that they would take this defense as a new starting point, continue to work deeply in their academic fields, keep improving their research, and strive to become high-level research talents to serve out nation.

Instrument Science and Technology, an academic discipline at the College of Instrument Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, was approved of doctoral degree awarding qualification in 2021. The first cohort doctoral students were admitted in 2022.

According to the Graduate School, more efforts would be invested in deepening reform of postgraduate education, perfecting cultivation system for high-level talents, and ensure the quality of degree-awarding, aiming to nurture high-quality outstanding talents and contribute to high-quality development of postgraduate education at BISTU.
