A number of top researchers attend the opening ceremony, including Ye Huasheng, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Tianjin University, Zhang Guangjun, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Southeast University, Jiang Huilin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Changchun University of Science and Technology, Director Lu Zhengsong of Postgraduate School of Tianjin University, Deputy Director Wu Huaqiang of Beijing Innovation Center for Future Chips (professor of Tsinghua University), Zeng Zhoumo, professor of Tianjin University and Director of Steering Committee of Teaching for Instrument Programs in Higher Educational Institutions of MOE, etc. as well as around 300 doctoral candidate from over 50 universities and research institutes of China.  

Wang Yongsheng addresses the opening ceremony and extends warmest welcome to academicians, professors, experts, and doctoral candidates. He also extends thanks to Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and co-sponsors such as Tianjin University, Tsinghua University, and Hefei University of Technology. He says it is a great honor for BISTU to host such a high level, influential academic conference. Following his introduction to academic research, features and strengths, talent cultivation and innovation in science and technology, Wang Yongsheng expresses that the forum serves as a great platform and an opportunity for all doctoral students and all researchers. He reaffirms that BISTU will provide the best service and support with successful complete of the forum.  

On behalf of Tianjin University, Lu Zhengsong extends sincere welcome to all experts, scholars, professors and doctoral students and heart-felt thanks to BISTU for support and services provided. He talks about explorations and practices of Tianjin University in respect of quality insurance system for degree education and encouragement for talents of innovation. He points out that the Forum is a platform of academic exchange and communication among doctoral students. It will facilitate cross-disciplinary development of instrument science and technology and biomedical engineering.  

Academician Ye Shenghua, Chairman of the Forum, shares his personal experiences of working and doing research and tells all doctoral students that doing research cannot be simply separated from how we behave. Research and our daily work shall be integrated and then progress will be made. He says that “the sea refuses no river and this is how we shall behave. Honesty is always the foundation of everything. Whatever we are doing, we shall be serious, responsible, persistent, and indifferent to fame and wealth. We shall try our best to seek the truth, be courageous to explore, and cherish every opportunity of innovation and creativity.” He hopes that students shall consider demand of the nation while exploring academic frontiers. Meanwhile, academic research achievements shall be applicable to production practices.  

The forum sets five sub-forums, i.e., smart sensor engineering and technology, modern detection and measurement technology, smart micro-system and technology, biomedical engineering, and visual detection and measurement and advanced imaging technology. Following completion of the opening ceremony, a number of outstanding keynote speeches are delivered by experts and scholars: Dynamic Visual Measurement and Engineering Application delivered by Academician Zhang Guangjun of Southeast University, Advanced Photo Electronic Technology Development delivered by Academician Jiang Huilin of Changcun University of Science and Technology, Chips Everywhere and Future Chips delivered by Deputy Director Wu Huaqiang of Beijing Innovation Center for Future Chips (professor of Tsinghua University), Nano-photo Sensor Biological Detection and Diagnosis Technology of Cancer delivered by Prof. Cui Yiping of Southeast University (a Yangtze River scholar), and Oscillation of Motive Blades on Heavy Equipment and Methods and Technology of Online-measurement of Gap Parameters delivered by Prof. Duan Fajie of Tianjin University. Over 200 doctoral candidates share their research progresses and achievements on the forum.
