Beijing, 10th March 2023 (BISTU)--- Working Conference on Academic Research, chaired by Vice President Chen Xin, successfully completed on 9th March 2023. The Conference was aimed at summarizing development of academic research since the 14th Five Year Plan and making arrangements for future work.  

Chen Xin raised requests on academic research of the University in four aspects. First, all must enhance political awareness, lay focus on self-reliance of high level science and technology, and constantly strengthen organized research. Second, core work in academic research should be consolidated to enhance the University’s competence in serving national strategy and the goal of building Beijing into an international center of science and technology innovation. Third, the New Campus was a great opportunity for academic research and should be fully utilized. And fourth, our feature in information technology should be further highlighted to promote high quality development of the University.  

The Conference confirmed that the prime mission of academic research was high quality development with a combined system of “top design, key projects, and strong fundamental research competence”. Our goal was to improve the ability in academic innovation with academic discipline building as major support. The ability of science and technology innovation and commercialization of research achievements should be strengthened while constantly consolidating mechanism of talent cultivation. The fundamental role of academic research was to serve social economic development of Beijing and to provide powerful support with our objective of building a high level university with distinctive feature in information technology.  

The Conference was attended by Office for Scientific Research, Industrial Development and Cooperation Office, Institute of Advanced Technology Development, vice deans of schools, and heads of research institutions of the University.
