Beijing, 27th February 2023 (BISTU)--- Inauguration of Guangzhou Nansha Photon Intelligence Institute of BISTU was formally held on 26th February 2023 in Guangzhou. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Chen Xin, Deputy Secretary Xie Wei of CPC Nansha Development Zone Committee of Guangzhou, and directors of HR Service Bureau of Guangdong, Science and Technology Bureau of Nansha, Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Nansha, Rural Affairs Bureau of Nansha, HR Development Bureau of Nansha, etc. and was chaired by Prof. Zhu Lianqing, Head of the Institute.

Chen Xin addressed the opening ceremony. He introduced a series of landmark achievements in respect of science and technology innovation made by BISTU in serving national strategy and the planning of building Beijing into an international center of science and technology innovation. Guided by the general picture of providing service with national strategy and building Beijing into an international center of science and technology innovation, BISTU was also actively planning to integrate high-end research achievements with Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District and coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei to achieve high quality development. With regard to future development of the Institute, Chen Xin pointed out that it was necessary to make general planning, build relating platforms, enhance coordination between the University and local governments, and fully utilize industrial policies of Nansha district to boost development of the Institute for the objective of the Institute “Embodying national interest, serving national strategy, shouldering national missions, and representing national standard”.  

Xie Wei offered an introduction to industrial policies of Nansha District. He pointed out that establishment of Photon Institute in Nansha District was an important move in implementing the decision made by the State Council regarding development of comprehensive cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao and in promoting construction of innovation platforms for key technologies.  

Located in geometrical center of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District, Nansha District is the only state-level new development zone of Guangdong Province, the largest free trade zone of Guangdong, and a model zone for comprehensive cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The State Council issued Master Plan of Guangzhou Nansha on Deepening Comprehensive Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao with Global Perspective in June 2022, symbolizing that Nansha has become a zone with the largest number of strategic platforms and the highest degrees of opening up to the world. Guangzhou Nansha Photon Intelligence Institute of BISTU was the very first research institute of the University in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District aiming at exploring more effective mechanism of research achievements commercialization and making progresses with fundamental researches and key technologies. In the future, the University will further integrate research and teaching with coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and integrated development of Yangtze River Delta to improve our competence in serving national strategy and the goal of building Beijing into an international center of science and technology innovation.  

The inauguration was attended by divisions and school of the University, including Office for Scientific Research, External Liaison Office, and School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering.
