
Beijing, 9th November 2023 (BISTU)--- BISTU held ceremony for conferring honorary professorship on five renowned experts on 9th November 2023, i.e., Kenneth TV Grattan FREng, Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, Elfed Lewis, General Chair of IEEE Sensors Council, Roberto Gusulfino, General Director of Endress Hauser Italia SpA, Anna Grazia Mignani, Institute of Applied Physics of the National Research Council of Italy, and Steff Smith, Chief Executive of Institute of Measurement and Control. The ceremony was attended and addressed by President Guo Fu.
On behalf of the University, Guo Fu extended warmest welcome to the experts and offered an introduction to BISTU as well as the high-level research base in Jiuxianqiao Campus. Guo Fu said that approval of doctoral programs in Instrumentation Science and Technology symbolized a new development phase and a higher level of school-running at BISTU. As renowned experts in the field of instrumentation science and technology, the five experts enjoyed recognized academic prestige and industrial reputation. It was expected that their strengths in academic research, industrial development, and educational resources would be brought into full play to provide guidance for frontier projects at the University and to push research competence of BISTU to a new high. Their guidance and expertise would help nurture interdisciplinary talents with global academic horizon, promote development of academic disciplines, build a sound atmosphere for internationalized research, and enhance academic influence of the University.

Xiao Zhisong offered an introduction to academic achievements of the five experts and announced the decision of the University that the five experts were conferred honorary professorship and appointed members of the Academic Commission of National 111 Project Base at BISTU.
Guo Fu and Xiao Zhisong presented letters of appointment and badges to the five experts.
The five experts expressed their gratitude towards BISTU for the honorary title. They were glad to maintain the close contact with BISTU and expressed that they would strengthen communication and collaboration with BISTU based on their respective academic strengths and guide faculties and students in scientific research and technological innovation so as to make contributions to international academic cooperation and cross-cultural communication.
Director Zhu Lianqing of Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Advanced Optoelectronic Devices and Systems (a National 111 Project Base) extended warmest welcome to the five experts, followed by an introduction to the Base. He was convinced that the experts would provide due support in platform construction, academic research, and high-end projects to facilitate high-quality development of academic disciplines at BISTU.

The conferring ceremony was chaired by Vice President Xiao Zhisong and attended by Dean Dong Mingli and Assistant to Dean Zhang Wen of School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronic Engineering.
