Beijing, 8^th September 2024 (BISTU)--- Academician Li Gensheng (Director of State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resources and Engineering) delivered “Progresses and Prospect of AI researches in petroleum engineering” at Shahe Campus on 6^th September 2024, a session of the Academician Seminar of BISTU. The report was chaired by Vice President Chen Xin.

Vice President Chen Xin met with Academician Li Gensheng and extended warm welcome and sincere thanks. He offered an introduction to BISTU in respect of basic information, academic disciplines and programs, academic activities, and academic research.

Starting from introduction of artificial intelligence in petroleum engineering, Academician Li Gensheng explained AI application scenarios in petroleum engineering, analyzed the status quo of AI in petroleum engineering, and introduced current representative academic achievements in this field. He held that the future orientation would be promotion of integration between intelligent computing and development of application scenarios, knowledge, and tools. In-depth integration between AI technology and drilling and well completion engineering is a focus for global petroleum industry. He added.

The academic report, with instructive information and professional understanding of artificial intelligence in petroleum engineering, won applauses of all students and faculty attending the seminar.

As a high-level academic exchange and communication event, Academician Seminar aimed to bring the role of academic exchange and cooperation in guiding sci-tech innovation into full play, cultivate a sound atmosphere for academic research, and enhance the quality of talent cultivation.

About Academician Li Gensheng

Li Gensheng, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the chief scientist of a State 973 Project, chair of a number of key projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation, is currently Director of State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resources and Engineering. He was Vice President of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and the Convener of Academic Discipline Appraisal in Mining Engineering and Petroleum and Gas Engineering of State Academic Degree Commission. He is a technical expert in the field of oil and gas drilling and completion engineering in China. He has made an important contribution to promoting the theoretical development and technical progress of China's oil and gas drilling and completion engineering, especially deep well drilling and low permeability completion stimulation. His research achievements are extensively applied to a number of projects home and abroad. He is also the winner of 5 state-level prizes in science and technology and 10 first prizes of provincial level on scientific and technological progresses.
