Academic Exchanges between BISTU and UCC Saw New Progresses

Beijing, 20th December 2023 (BISTU)--- University College Cork (UCC) delegation headed by Dr. Martin Howard, Associate Dean (Global) in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, visited BISTU School of Foreign Studies on 14th December 2023 to explore globalized talent cultivation.  

The visit was aimed to provide more opportunities of learning for students, enhance their cross-cultural communication competence, nurture an open, inclusive global horizon, and strengthen their comprehensive qualities.  

Following an introduction to UCC in respect of general information, academic programs, research interests, and employment of graduates, Dr. Howard stressed that UCC is now providing outstanding environment for learning and research. Based on its international reputation in academics, the academic programs at UCC cover a broad spectrum and offer abundant opportunities for students in academic development.  

Vice Dean Wang Zhaohui of School of Foreign Studies explained academic programs and international exchange and cooperation activities at the School.  

Director Zhang Bei of UCC Beijing Office offered an introduction to studying abroad programs, including procedures, programs, and scholarships.  

 

 

Themed on “Motives and individual factors in foreign language learning”, Dr. Howard delivered an academic report for BISTU students and faculties. Based on second language acquisition studies, the Report emphasized the important effect of individual differences upon second language acquisition with special focus on learners’ motives. With lively explanation and interesting cases, Dr. Howard shared latest progresses in the field. The carefully-designed interaction session for students triggered questions from students and faculties and gingered up the report.  

The visit and report facilitated the in-depth collaboration between BISTU and UCC and provided valuable opportunities for academic exchanges. It broadened faculties’ academic horizon and deepened students’ understanding of foreign language learning. Carrying forward the fine tradition of “diligence and honor”, School of Foreign Studies would be committed to enhancing overall qualities of students and nurturing outstanding talents with a global horizon, cross-cultural communication competence, and all-round qualities to contribute to educational globalization of the University.
