Beijing, 30th May 2023 (BISTU)---Aiming at meeting with the new round of undergraduate education evaluation and assessment, Working Conference for 2023 Undergraduate Education Evaluation and Assessment of the University was held at Taihanglu Campus on 30th May 2023. The Conference, addressed by Secretary Wang Chuanliang of CPC BISTU Committee and chaired by Vice President Fang Deying, attended by all senior administrators, members of teaching supervision, directors of all BISTU divisions and offices, deans and secretaries of all BISTU schools, and representatives of faculties.  

Wang Chuanliang pointed out that undergraduate education was a key sector in fostering virtue through education. The level and quality of undergraduate education remained as a key index in higher education. It has been attached great importance by Central Party Committee, Ministry of Education, and Beijing Municipality. The last evaluation and assessment was done five years ago and now many indexes have changed. However, we were still to follow the principle of being guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, highlighting overall party leadership, and highlighting fostering virtue through education. Wang Chuanliang stressed that we must spare no efforts to make sound preparations for undergraduate education evaluation and assessment. It was not only the implementation of policies and guidelines of supervising authorities but also an effective pathway to deepen reform of education, enhance our capability of talent cultivation, and facilitate high quality development of the University. Moreover, it was an important practice to learn General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on education, implement the philosophy of national conference on education, and promote thematic education at the University.  

Wang Chuanliang stressed that in the first place we must be self-confident in evaluation and assessment. Reviewing the past 86 years of experiences, development objectives, development strategy, breakthroughs we have made, and abundant accomplishments in undergraduate education, Wang Chuanliang pointed out that the University now has entered a new stage of development with bright prospect. We should take the opportunity of undergraduate education evaluation and assessment to conduct an overall check on quality of undergraduate education so as to locate problems and make up our weaknesses. Second, we must enhance our political awareness and understand the true implication of the evaluation and assessment. Wang Chuanliang stressed that the evaluation and assessment was an important measure taken by Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality in deepening reform of education in the New Era. It involved overall development of the University. We must establish close links between evaluation and assessment, thematic education, and the mission of fostering virtue through education. Third, we should strengthen organizational leadership in evaluation and assessment. All divisions, offices, and school shall be under leadership of the University Leading Group of Undergraduate Education Evaluation and Assessment and follow coordination of Undergraduate Education Evaluation and Assessment Office. Fourth, each office, division, and school should shoulder their responsibilities in evaluation and assessment. And fifth, it was necessary to seriously summarize and review our educational achievements and highlight our strengths. We were to meet the undergraduate education evaluation and assessment with high quality, high efficiency, and high standard so as to make greater contributions to national and municipal development.  

Vice President Xiao Zhisong commented that we should first obtain an appropriate understanding of undergraduate education evaluation and assessment. The new round of evaluation and assessment aimed at summarizing achievements and experiences of undergraduate education dated from 2018. It was an overall examination and assessment. We would take this opportunity to find our weaknesses, target at future orientation, and deepen reform on education and internal management to improve quality of talent cultivation. It would bring development of the University to a new stage. Second, we need to accurately understand and grasp the fundamental principle and standard of the evaluation and assessment. Our goal was to improve education through evaluation and assessment. And third, organizational leadership of the evaluation and assessment should be strengthened. It was a demanding mission allowing a short period of time. All faculties, staff, and students should pay enough attention to the evaluation and assessment with pronounced responsibilities and coordination among all divisions, offices and schools. And then we would be confident to meet the evaluation and assessment and to make fresh progress for the University.  

Fang Deying expected that all faculties and staff should enhance political awareness and the sense of responsibility in undergraduate education evaluation and assessment. We should take initiative and be enthusiastic with the evaluation and assessment to complete related missions on each stage as scheduled.  

Director Wang Xuewen of Development Strategy and Planning Office offered an explanation on the working plan of the University concerning undergraduate education evaluation and assessment, followed by an introduction to fundamental indexes, core missions, and working plans for each divisions, offices, and school by Director Mi Jie of Academic Affairs Office .
