Beijing, 21st August 2023 (BISTU)--- Supervised by MOE Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education and sponsored by Chinese Institute of Electronics, Association of Chinese Graduate Education, and Children & Youth Science Center of China Association for Science and Technology, the 18th GigaDevice Cup China Electronic Design Competition for Graduates successfully concluded in Dongguan University of Technology. BISTU postgraduates have been honored for their outstanding performance. “Cascade-visual-based tomato picking and disease and insect detection system”, designed by “Book Incredible” team composed of students from BISTU School of Automation, won the first prize in the national finals, a great breakthrough in this competition.
Focusing on Phytium processors, Book Incredible utilized improved deep learning algorithm to achieve recognition of tomato maturity and detection of diseases and insects so as to conduct accurate picking. After months of preparations and multiple generations of works created, the Team finally won the first prize in the national finals.
In addition, BISTU teams also won a third prize in the national finals and 3 first prizes, 12 second prizes, and 6 third prizes in north China section. Prof. Chen Wenbai was awarded Supervisor of Excellence by both national finals and north China section, with Zhang Junning from School of Electromechanical Engineering and Li Jun from School of Information Management being awarded Supervisors of Excellence by north China section. BISTU was also granted the award for organizing excellence.
As one of the competitions in the series of “competitions for Chinese postgraduates in innovative practices”, China Electronic Design Competition for Graduates has become a top-level competition in electronic design and a high-end platform for cultivation of innovation and entrepreneurship awareness and improvement of hands-on skills for postgraduates in electronics. The Competitions was composed of two parts, i.e., technique competition and business plan competition. The former was conducted in 8 pathways, namely, circuit and embedded systems, electromechanical control and intelligent manufacturing, communications and network technology, information sensing system and application, technology and system in signals and information processing, artificial intelligence, technological exploration and cross-disciplinary subjects, and Huawei 6G advanced wireless technology. A number of special items were built and name after enterprises, such as GigaDevice, Huawei, Phytium, Horizon Robotics, Uni-Trend, Jingjia Micro, Sophgo, Loongson, TI, ARM China, Synopsys, Math Works, etc. The Competition attracted over 27,000 students and faculties in 6289 teams from 333 postgraduate institutes of China and only 8.5% teams were qualified for the national finals.
Centering on the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, the University has been promoting organic connection between education, talent cultivation, and industrial development and constantly improving innovative hands-on skills of postgraduate students. Industry-education integration would be further deepened to nurture more high level talents of applied learning.
