BISTU Students Won Third Prize in the First National Innovation and Creativity Competition for Chinese Postgraduates on Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality

Beijing, 14th January 2023 (BISTU) — Guided by Department of Degree Management & Postgraduate Education (Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee) and organized by Association of China Graduate Education and Children & Youth Science Center of CAST, the First National Innovation and Creativity Competition for Chinese Postgraduates on Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality successfully concluded recently. ZLCZ, a BISTU team composed of three postgraduates— Liu Jiahao, Zhao Bingyang and Chen Jianjie— and the supervisor Zhao Bo (School of Automation), became a winner of the third prize.  

The Competition was aimed at enhancing postgraduate students’ awareness of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, encouraging them to be more proactive in contributing to carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, improving talent cultivation quality in carbon peaking and carbon neutrality-related academic programs, facilitating in-depth integration between universities and social institutions, boosting incubation and commercialization of academic research projects, and making contributions to “3060 carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals”.  

The whole team was composed of members of Innovation Research Team for Intelligent Energy Control Technology at School of Automation. Professional training was offered by the supervisor to team members who have overcome a series of difficulties coming along with covid-containment. After four-month preparation, they finally completed their on-line defense.  

  

The award-winning work was titled “New Materials and New Energy— Comprehensive Utilization Technology for Green Hydrogen, Heat, Electricity, and Gas”. Green hydrogen was produced in a climate-neutral manner and then applied to power generation, with the support of comprehensive technology on supplies of heat, electricity, and gas and heat recovery technology. Large-scale storage and utilization of green electricity and clean gas was realized and efficiency of hydrogen energy was improved. Following surveys in Geermu of Qinghai Province and some office zones in Beijing, the Team has designed high-efficiency utilization system for hydrogen energy and produced corresponding economic assessments.
