BISTU WATER Honored with Silver of Robocup

Beijing, 4th July, 2016(BISTU)--- Leipzig in Germany witnessed the 20th Robocup--- robot football World Cup--- held from 28th June to 4th July 2016. In the final for medium size robots, Water team of BISTU regrettably lost to Eindhoven of the Netherlands in penalty kick and won the second place of the medium size group. It shall be noted that in technology challenge section of medium size group, Water, as a champion, tops the second place by 33 points.   

 

As is known, about 3500 contestants of over 500 teams from 40-odd countries and regions participated in the game in Leipzig. The medium size group includes teams from China, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Iran, etc.  

For the first time medium size robots are challenged for pass and receive combinations on artificial turf in natural light. The final is a fierce tight game between Water and Eindhoven until the penalties where Water lost by 0:1.  

To prepare for this game, members of Water worked very hard to research and practice on technological upgrade. Supervisor Wang Xueyan said that Water improved algorithm on color identification and strengthened the capability of identifying fields in sunlight. It effectively helped the robots in recognizing the right lines. Also algorithm on location tracking was improved to enhance precision of tracking. Multi-core decision making system was employed to raise robustness of the system. Flexibility of goal keeper robots was upgraded in their equipment controllers to enhance effectiveness of defense. And video equipment was also updated to improve reliability of image recognition in complicated surroundings.  

Abidingyimujiang, a long established Water member, said after stepping down the podium that "we owe thanks to our competitors and spectators for the support and encouragement. Our hard work in the past year is worth it, though we lost the penalties to Eindhoven. We become more experienced in games and we are a stronger team now. Go Water!"
