Beijing, 28th May, 2016(BISTU)--- BISTU Xiaoying Campus witnessed grand opening ceremony of 2016 Instrument Science & Biomedical Engineering PhD Forum, sponsored by Office of State Council Academic Degree Committee, Tianjin University, Hefei University of Technology, and BISTU and cosponsored by 22 famous universities and institutions like Tsinghua University. Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering & professor of Tianjin University Ye Shenghua chairs the forum. President Wang Yongsheng addresses to the opening ceremony hosted by Vice President Yang Jun.  

The opening ceremony are attended by a number of famous scholars and experts, including: Academician Ye Shenghua of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Zhang Guangjun of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Southeast University, Academician Cao Xiaofeng of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology), Academician Liu Ming of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of Microelectronics), Professor Daping Chu of the University of Cambridge, Director Cheng Jingang of Beijing Administration of Foreign Experts, Director Li Shanting of Department of Science & Technology and Postgraduate Education of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, and Vice President Wang Yan of Tianjin University. The forum are also attended by over two hundred PhD students researching in this area and other PhD students from the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and Université Paris Diderot.

On behalf of Tianjin University, Wang Yan extends warm welcome to all scholars and PhD students and gratitude to BISTU for all the preparations and support. He shares with the forum progress of reform on postgraduate education and exploration and practices of Tianjin University in this regard. The forum is a high level, broad scope, and multi-area platform for academic exchange among PhD students in this field. Cross-disciplinary development will be promoted between instrument science and biomedical engineering. The students are expected to cherish this opportunity to explore and innovate in accordance with themes of the forum: exchange, cross-discipline, innovation, and collaboration.  

In his address, Cheng Jingang says the forum is a great event of listening to masters, exchanging with peers, and collaborating with international friends. BISTU has achieved substantial progress in introduction of foreign experts and internationalization of education. Beijing Administration of Foreign Experts will continue to support BISTU in respect of introduction of foreign experts and international cooperation. Says Cheng Jingang. He hopes that BISTU will gather more top international talents to nurture science and technology talents with international horizon and brilliant innovative competence so as to serve coordinated development of Beijing and integration of Beijing-Hebei-Tianjin. 　　 

Academician Ye Shenghua, Chairman of the Forum, tells the PhD students that “You are the future of the nation”. With reference to success story of Academician Zhang Guangjun, he says that students shall be competent in both academic research and practical work. An organic combination between academic research and practical work could lead to development of one’s career. He expects the students to confirm their research interests and orientation based on latest development of their research fields. Meanwhile, demand of the nation shall also be considered. “It is far from being enough for PhD of Engineering to only publish a few papers. The actual achievements weigh much more.” He specially emphasizes.  

The forum, including its four sub-forums, i.e., modern detection technology and system, MEMS and biomedical engineering, computer visual detection, and advanced imaging technology, will organize activities for exchange and communication of 20 expert reports and about 200 PhD journals.  

Before the opening ceremony, President Wang Yongsheng respectively meets with and talks to Academicians, experts, and distinguished guests.
