Beijing, 27th May 2023 (BISTU)--- The working conference for organizing committee of North China Five Provinces (Municipalities and Autonomous Regions) University Students Robotics Competition was held at Taihanglu Campus of BISTU on 26th May 2023. The Conference, attended by over 20 experts from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, and Nei Mongol and chaired by Director Mi Jie of BISTU Academic Affairs Office, aimed at issues concerning the 10th North China Five Provinces (Municipalities and Autonomous Regions) University Students Robotics Competition and promoting coordinated sharing of higher educational resources among the five provinces.
Mi Jie offered an introduction to background and organizing issues of the Competition and expected that all universities concerned should work closely together to successfully organize the 10th Competition. She commented that regional interconnectivity would be achieved by jointly building virtual rooms of teaching and research in respect of robotics among the five provinces and three missions were to be accomplished. First, interconnectivity and “combination of virtual and actual approaches” in teaching and research among universities based in the five provinces should be achieved. Second, a teaching community among the five provinces should be built based on exploration of “intelligence plus” teaching. And third, we were to constantly enhance the quality of the Competition. Mi Jie expressed that the tenth anniversary would be a good opportunity to campaign for robotics competition and attract media coverage so as to enhance social influence and reputation of the Competition.
Deputy Director Wu Yingnian of Academic Affairs Office offered a detailed explanation on plans, objectives, sectors, requirements, and schedule of the Competition. He pointed out that the Competition would be themed on “Self-confidence, self-reliance, upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground”. It would provide a platform for display of achievements and application of artificial intelligence and robotics. An innovative sector would be established, i.e., “national development in science and technology”, which aimed at meeting the national requirements on the new stage to cultivate high quality, innovative talents with all-round capabilities.
Prof. Liu Xuejun from Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology and experts from Tianjin, Shanxi, Nei Mongol conducted discussions on innovative development, optimization of competition rules, resources sharing, display of outstanding works, and enhancement of social influence of the Competition.
The Competition is co-sponsored by Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Tianjin Municipal Commission of Education, Hebei Education Department, Shanxi Education Department, and Inner Mongolia Education Department. The first session was sponsored by Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and hosted by BISTU. The Competition was aimed at strengthening science qualities and research competences of university students, promoting communication and cooperation among universities in science and technology, deepening reform of talent cultivation model, bringing into full play the role of artificial intelligence and robotics in promoting social and economic development, and guiding university students to creativity and innovation.
