Beijing, 22nd August 2023 (BISTU)--- BISTUer, a team composed of BISTU School of Automation students, won the second prize of the national finals in the 5th China Postgraduate Robot Innovation and Design Competition held in Changsha with “nasopharynx swab robot”. It is the very first time that BISTU has attended such competitions and the very first time that BISTU teams have ever won a state-level prize in this competition.
China Postgraduate Robot Innovation and Design Competition was oriented towards doctoral and master students at universities. It was supervised by MOE Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education and sponsored by Association of Chinese Graduate Education and Children & Youth Science Center of China Association for Science and Technology and has become one of the themed competitions in the series of “competitions for Chinese postgraduates in innovative practices”. The Competition attracted 1177 teams from 240 postgraduate institutes and 288 teams from 96 institutes entered the finals, including 65 in simulation group, 50 in component group, 165 in integration group, and 8 in special item group. In the form of “onsite presentation plus oral defense”, the finals saw innovative achievements of contestants. And finally 28 first prizes, 86 second prizes, and 170 third prizes were awarded.
Combining priori knowledge of anatomy and computer-aided visual nasopharynx swab sampling, BISTUer Team provided an ideal solution to the problem that nasopharynx swab robots could not conduct route-design based on traditional imaging theory. It won unanimous applause from experts and reviewers.
Centering on the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, the University has been promoting organic connection between education, talent cultivation, and industrial development and constantly improving innovative hands-on skills of postgraduate students. Industry-education integration would be further deepened to nurture more high level talents of applied learning.
