Director Li Yi of Beijing Municipal Education Commission Conducted Survey at BISTU on Categorized Development of Emerging Interdisciplinary Academic Disciplines

Beijing, 4th January 2023 (BISTU)--- Survey on building platforms for emerging interdisciplinary academic disciplines was conducted at BISTU by Director Li Yi of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Deputy Director Liu Changan of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, experts, and directors of offices and divisions of Organizational Department of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Beijing Municipal Finance Bureau, and Beijing Municipal Education Commission. The Survey was joined by Secretary Xie Jiangling of CPC BISTU Committee and President Guo Fu.

Li Yi spoke highly of the achievements BISTU has made in categorized development and the platform of “Intellisense science and engineering” as an emerging interdisciplinary area. He pointed out that the Survey conducted by over ten divisions and offices of Beijing Municipal Education Commission was also a part of thematic education. Following his affirmation of BISTU’s progresses in talent cultivation, academic discipline construction, new campus construction, and services provided with national and municipal development, he expected BISTU to lay focus on national educational development strategy and the goal of building Beijing into “four centers” to provide high quality service with educational, social and economic development of Beijing. He stressed that in the first place we should local the problems to make up weaknesses with coordinated efforts. Second, CPC BISTU Committee should stick to the objective of building a high level university of applied learning and seize the opportunity of categorized development and building platforms for emerging interdisciplinary academic disciplines to facilitate talent cultivation and university governance. And third, it was necessary to explore effective measures for integration of interdisciplinary disciplines and strengthen the quality and level of talent cultivation so that universities would be able to provide better service with high quality development of Beijing.

On behalf of BISTU, Xie Jiangling expressed gratitude to Beijing Municipal Education Commission and experts for their guidance and support. The University would learn and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions on education that high quality development should be viewed as the lifeline for all educational sectors. The Survey at BISTU was an excellent opportunity for the University to reflect on feedbacks of experts. Based on our orientation and features, we would strengthen academic discipline construction, perfect categorized development and construction of interdisciplinary disciplines, and safeguard organizational, policy-related, and funding-related supports. We were ready to shoulder responsibilities to serve the high quality development of education, economics, and society in Beijing. Xie Jiangling said.

Guo Fu delivered a report on current progresses with categorized development and a plan for building a platform for intellisense science and engineering as an emerging interdisciplinary discipline. Following the route of quality-oriented, feature-oriented, and differentiated development, the University has strengthened top design and assembled a number of high-caliber talents. Intellisense science and engineering, as an emerging interdisciplinary discipline, was aimed at nurturing high-level innovative interdisciplinary talents and building a high-grade, precision and advanced discipline in instrumentation science and technology. Based on our educational orientation and strengths in academic disciplines, we have made a plan for interdisciplinary platforms covering feasibility, desirability, content, objective, concrete measures, supporting mechanisms, expected achievements, etc. Guo Fu said. And he added that the platform of intellisense science and engineering as an emerging interdisciplinary discipline would serve its guiding role in enhancing the quality and innovation of educational development so that the University would make greater contributions to building Beijing into Four Centers, self-reliance of science and technology, and high-quality development of Beijing in the new era.

The survey meeting was chaired by Liu Changan. Experts and directors of offices and divisions of Organizational Department of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Beijing Municipal Finance Bureau, and Beijing Municipal Education Commission affirmed the achievements that the University has made and produced relating suggestions for further development.

The experts reached consensus to agree with the plan for building a platform for intellisense science and engineering as an emerging interdisciplinary discipline. Experts held that intellisense science and engineering as an emerging interdisciplinary discipline was based on the new generation of information technology, artificial intelligence, and intelligent equipment and centered on the key demand of Beijing and industries in intellisense and engineering. The platform was of great significance to realizing interdisciplinary integration and high quality development in the field of intellisense science and technology. Centered on instrumentation science and technology, the platform incorporated strengths of a number of disciplines such as optical engineering, mechanical engineering, control science and engineering, information and communications engineering, computer science and technology, and applied mathematics. With solid foundation and feasible planning, it would become a hub for intellisense science and engineering.

The survey was also attended by senior administrator of BISTU, deans of BISTU schools, directors of related divisions and offices, pacesetters for academic disciplines, and department chairs.
