Prof. Vladimir Falko Appointed BISTU Honorary Professor & Honorary Member of Academic Committee

Beijing, 29th April, 2016(BISTU)--- Prof. Vladimir Falko, Prof. of the University of Manchester and Research Director of the National Graphene Institute is appointed BISTU Honorary Professor and Honorary member of BISTU Academic Committee on the appointed ceremony hosted by Vice President Xu Baojie. President Wang Yongsheng and Vice President Han Qiushi attend the ceremony.  

 

Wang Yongsheng extends his warmest welcome to Prof. Falko followed by a brief introduction to BISTU. The appointment offers precious opportunity for BISTU to receive professional experience and knowledge from Prof. Falko, the world leading expert in graphene research. Said Wang Yongsheng. And he hopes that research cooperation between the two universities could achieve substantial progress in near future.  

After introduction to academic achievement of Prof. Falko and announcement of appointment by Han Qiushi, President Wang Yongsheng presents the letter of appointment and BISTU badge.    

 

Falko is professor of theoretical physics and Research Director of the National Graphene Institute. Professor Falko is one of the UK's leading condensed matter theorists, who has made substantial contributions towards the understanding of electronic and optical properties of graphene, including the discovery of bilayer graphene. He plays a central role in research on graphene and other bilayer materials in Europe and he is also a leading figure of flagship project on graphene and other 2d crystals of Europe. Major research focus of Prof. Falko covers theory of the physical properties of graphene and 2D materials and nanoelectronics. Prof. Falko accompanied President Xi Jinping in October 2015 when President Xi visited the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester.  

 

The appointment ceremony is also attended by Director Xing Jishou of Office for Scientific Research, Director Chen Xin of Human Resources, Prof. Zhu Lianqing, Director of Opto-electronic Testing Technology Lab, Dean Dong Mingli of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, and Prof. Lu Jing, Director of International Cooperation Department.    

 

After the ceremony, discussions are conducted on future cooperation between International Lab of Advanced Optoelectronic Technology and National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester. Both parties agree to work together in enhancing research competence of young faculties and other fields of mutual interest.  

 

Later, Prof. Falko delivers a seminar on graphene technology and its research progress and then is showed around BISTU Key Lab of Optoelectronic Testing Technology.
