Beijing, 13th July 2023 (BISTU)---Aiming at integrating the thematic education with high qualify development of the University, BISTU delegation headed by Deputy Secretary Yu Shijie of CPC BISTU Committee and Vice President Wang Xingfen visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology on 11th July 2023 to conducted specialized survey on new-type research institutions. The delegation members included faculties of Office for Scientific Research, Postgraduate School, Human Resources Office, Assets Management Division, Advanced Technology Research Institute, and Intelligent Micro-system Laboratory.
President You Zheng of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Vice Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering) extended warm welcome to the delegation headed by Yu Shijie and Wang Xingfen and offered an introduction to Huazhong University of Science and Technology. As the first-cohort member of double first-class university, Huazhong University of Science and Technology has been pursuing academic excellence, keeping up pace with times, and following the innovation-led development strategy to serve national development. With talent-oriented development strategy, the University has attracted first-class faculties, conducted cross-disciplinary innovation, and optimized academic research. A number of internationally well-known brands have been established and momentum for growth has been gained. The University has made substantial contributions to the cause of national education, science and technology innovation, and economic development.
Yu Shijie produced an introduction to BISTU and extended thanks to Huazhong University of Science and Technology for its generous support with key laboratories, academic research, and development of photo electronics as an academic discipline. He mentioned that the survey aimed at learning from practices and principles of teaching and research at Huazhong University of Science and Technology to achieve mutual development and long-lasting exchange and communication.
Director Liao Xiaofei of Research Development Office of Huazhong University of Science and Technology offered an introduction to academic research at the University in respect of research institutions, systematic research platforms, infrastructure for key science and technology researches, major research achievements, and social services. Reports on introduction and cultivation system of talents and postgraduate education were respectively delivered by Deputy Director Yang Jun of Talent Work Office and Vice Dean Pan Linqiang of Postgraduate School. Vice Dean Zhang Guangzu of School of Integrated Circuits explained academic disciplines and school-industry integration of the School.
Discussions between the two institutions focused on building new-type research institutions, researches in cross-disciplinary development, introduction and cultivation of talents, staff development, motivation of innovation competences, postgraduate education, etc.
Deputy Secretary Ma Jianhui of CPC Huazhong University of Science and Technology pointed out that administrative divisions and offices should strengthen management in research, enhance the competence of providing services, established scientific, reasonable mechanisms of appraisal and assessment, explore more areas of research, and facilitate collaboration between universities and local governments.
Accompanied by Deputy Director Lin Lei of Research Development Office of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, BISTU delegation visited the University History Gallery, Faculty and Students Service Center, Center for Gravitational Experiments, Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center, National Engineering Center of Digital Manufacturing Equipment, etc. on 12th July 2023.
The survey successfully concluded with satisfactory results. It helped BISTU delegation in a number of areas such as new-type research institutions, research-oriented development strategy, talent cultivation, etc. and brought the University one step closer to the objective of self-reliance and self-enhancement in science and technology.
