Beijing, 16th October 2023 (BISTU)--- Secretary Xie Jiangling of CPC BISTU Committee and President Guo Fu met with Academician Zhao Qinping of Chinese Academy of Engineering (former Vice Minister of Education) visited BISTU on 16th October 2023.  

Xie Jiangling expressed thanks to Academician Zhao Qinping for the visit, followed by a brief introduction to the University and a series of achievements that BISTU has made in recent years aiming at high quality big-stride development. He expected that Academician Zhao Qinping would offer suggestive advices to BISTU in respect of talent cultivation, academic research, and academic discipline construction based on his research specialties.  

The academic seminar was chaired by Guo Fu. Vice President Chen Xin offered an introduction to academic research progresses at the University. Director Zhu Lianqing of ministerial key lab (member of the national committee of CPPCC) offered an introduction to postgraduate programs offered in the field of instrumentation science and technology. Research strengths and progresses in corresponding field were respectively introduced by Dean Li Ning of Computer Science School, Dean Cao Lin of Information and Communication Engineering School, Executive Vice Dean Fan Junfang of Automation School, and Director Mi Jie of Academic Affairs Office.  

Zhao Qinping produced positive comments on progresses and achievements at the University and provided suggestions in five aspects. First, feature-based development should be followed as a guideline, i.e., keeping pace with the times in the field of information technology with focus on sustainable development to cultivate fresh development momentum. Second, attention should be paid to doctoral programs. Based on current doctoral programs in instrumentation science and technology, new efforts would be invested in overall systematic planning while enhancing interdisciplinary researches to improve the level of school-running and academic research. Third, the role of culture in academic development should not be ignored. It was necessary to highlight cultural strengths to offer spiritual foundation for talent cultivation. Fourth, the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education remained a key task at all times. It was expected to strengthen ideological and political education, i.e., attaching importance to teaching and research and embedding ideological and political education in the whole process of education. And fifth, the quality of master in engineering should be constantly enhanced while laying focus on market demand, fundamental knowledge, practice skills, innovative awareness, and differentiated educational thinking.  

In his closing remark, Guo Fu extended thanks to Academician Zhao Qinping for his valuable advices and reiterated their importance. He requested that all faculties and staff attending the meeting should reflect on these suggestions and link them to academic practices to draw experiences for future work, which would provide support with high quality development and achieving our objective of building a high level university of applied learning with distinctive feature in information technology.  

Academician Zhao Qinping was showed around Taihanglu Campus to learn about construction and development on the New Campus.  

The meeting and discussion were also attended by Deputy Secretary Yu Shijie of CPC BISTU Committee, Vice President Wang Xingfen, and Vice President Xiao Zhisong.
