BISTU Delegation Led by VP Liu Yong Visiting Australia and New Zealand Universities

Beijing, 1st September, 2016 (BISTU)--- Upon invitation of Unitec Institute of Technology in New Zealand and University of Victoria and University of Technology Sydney in Australia, BISTU delegation led by Vice President Liu Yong visited the universities and signed agreement of cooperation with Unitec and memorandum of understanding with UTS. The delegation also paid visits to Chinese Consulate General in Auckland, University of Auckland, University of Melbourne, and University of Sydney to exchange and communicate on campus management, halls management and campus development. The delegation members also include Director of General Administration Office Li Huatao and Vice Dean of School of Economics and Management Zhang Jian.

The delegation firstly visited University of Auckland, ranking 1st among New Zealand institutions. Established in 1883, the University is historically famous and listed top 100 of the world, with its academic achievement and research account for over 70% in the country. Of total 40,000 students in 7 campuses and 3 teaching places, 6,500 are internationally recruited. The delegation was showed around City campus, including library, computing center, student services, etc. The delegation was impressed with the University's student-oriented service and excellent facilities.

As the largest national technology Institute of New Zealand, Unitec has over 23,000 students, of whom 2,800 are from 80-odd countries and regions. Holding onto the principle of practice and applied learning, Unitec lays stress on students' competence in combining theory with practice and graduated students are well received in industries. The delegation met and talked with Prof. Bain, Dean of Business and Enterprise and High Technology, Prof. Kerry, Dean of Faculty of Creative Industries and Business, and Prof. Hooper of Department of Accounting and finance. Agreements of detailed cooperation were signed, which covered specific projects such as exchange of undergraduates, Postgraduate, and MBA students, 3+1+1 bachelor to master project, 1+1 (or 2+1) dual master project, and faculty mutual visit project.

Then the delegation visited Education Section of Chinese Consulate General in Auckland and talked with consul education Fang Dongpo. After being informed of policies and situation of Chinese students studying in Auckland, the delegation introduced BISTU and the talent project. As per suggestions of BISTU, Consul Fang agreed to recommend students of excellence, when they graduate, to go back to China and work for the university. And he hoped that BISTU continued to improve the quality of education and enhance educational globalization.

The delegation also visited University of Melbourne, a leading research university of the world, to obtain in-depth understanding of campus layout, student services, campus management and campus development. Reasonably arranged campus functions, a number of historical buildings, classical clock tower, square, and new modern buildings have made the university a very beautiful place.

At the University of Victoria, VP International Prof. Brridge, Ms. Carolyn, Prof. Williams, and Mr. George met and discussed with the delegation on the issues of furthering cooperation between the two institutions, including credit transfer, short-term exchange, staff development project, etc.

When visiting University of Technology Sydney, the delegation discussed with relative faculties of the University, including Mr. Blair, Ms. Treacy, Ms. Tiffany, and Ms. Holly on a series of cooperative projects such as 3+1 or 2+2 undergraduate projects, MBA education, short-term exchange of young faculties, research cooperation, etc. and VP Liu Yong signed memorandum of understanding with regard to furthering cooperation with UTS. After that the delegation was showed around super lab and uniquely designed teaching building of UTS.

Upon ending of the delegation’s visit, VP Liu Yong went to University of Sydney and observed campuses--- main building, library, sports field--- of the University. Established in 1850, the University of Sydney has one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, according to authoritative media reports. It is also the No.1 institution in Australia, even in South Hemisphere. Its advantageous geographical location, beautiful campus, and perfect facilities have become a great attraction for students around the world.

That the delegation visited universities in Australia and New Zealand has successfully consolidated inter-school cooperative relationship, expanded new links and channels, and laid a sound foundation for more extensive exchange and communication between BISTU and its global partners.
