BIMSA Visited BISTU to Explore Ties

Beijing, 31st October 2024 (BISTU)--- Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA) delegation headed by Vice President Wu Rongling visited BISTU on 30th October 2024. Both institutions conducted discussions on future cooperation between BISTU and BIMSA Center of Interdisciplinary Research for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. Chairman Xie Jiangling of University Council met with Wu Rongling. President Guo Fu held the discussion with Wu Rongling and delegation members.

Guo Fu offered an introduction to the strengths of BISTU in information technology, supply-side reform of academic programs centering on high-grade, advanced and precision industries, and the strengths of the University in artificial intelligence. Guo Fu pointed out that artificial intelligence is a key component of the new generation of information technology. BIMSA, a leading research institute in mathematics, plays an important role in building Beijing into a national center of scientific and technological innovation. BIMSA and BISTU found agreement in the field of information technology. “Mathematics plus AI” model would help boost the original innovative momentum for development of artificial intelligence. It was hoped that both institutions would start to explore substantive cooperation in the future to make greater contributions to our nation.

Following an introduction to BIMSA Center of Interdisciplinary Research for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, Wu Rongling expressed that BIMSA has gathered first-class teams to engage in the field of mathematical physics and theoretical physics, material science, artificial intelligence and big data, image science, big-scale modeling and computing, statistical methodology, data science, etc. BISTU has strong strengths in information and artificial intelligence and rich experiences in talent cultivation. It was expected that both institutions would conduct in-depth cooperation in respect of academic disciplines, research, and talent cultivation.

BIMSA, established in 2020 and co-sponsored by Beijing Municipal Government and Tsinghua University, is a world first-class research institute. The founding president is Professor Shing-Tung Yau, a world-renowned mathematician. BIMSA is committed to cutting-edge research in all areas of mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science, and related disciplines and aims at fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and bridging the gap between basic research and real world applications.

The meeting was joined by directors and deans of General Administration Office, Academic Affairs Office, School of Automation, and representatives of professors.
