Beijing, 3rd May, 2016(BISTU)--- Wang Anshun, Mayor of Beijing Municipality visited BISTU to conduct survey and investigation on situation and policy of scientific innovation on 28th April---a couple of days before the Labor Day. The young are major driving force for scientific and technological innovation and thus they shall be bold in scaling the heights of science, diligent in learning and research, and enhancing comprehensive scientific innovative competence so as to contribute to national prosperity and development of the Capital. Said Wang Anshun.


At 2:50pm of the day, Mayor Wang Anshun arrived at Jianxiangqiao Campus. BISTU professor Wang Likun showed the Mayor around Municipal Key Lab of Sensors where he talked to Prof. Wang and Prof. Gao Guowei on piezoelectricity composites sonar. Showing his concern on function, quality, technological strength and market prospectus of the sonar, the Mayor asks: what is the major material? Will it be able to applied to underwater detection equipment? Have these achievements been tested extensively? Prof. Wang Likun answered all the enquiries. Mayor Wang Anshun also watched demonstration of Micromechanical Gyroscope. When learning that BISTU-developed inertial sensor is stepping towards civil market and has established five pieces of industry standards, Mayor Wang Anshun encouraged the faculties to translate their scientific research achievements into actual products and productive forces and to continually enhance quality and function of the products in actual application.

Then Municipal Key Lab of Optoelectronic Testing Technology welcomes Mayor Wang Anshun. It is also the Beijing Lab of Bio-medical Detection Technology and Instruments where the Mayor watched BISTU-developed Automatic MEIA Tester and sample machine of flow cytometer and listened to introduction to function and technological features of the two instruments offered by Prof. Zhu Lianqing, director of the Lab. After Zhu Lianqing introduced research progress on detection technology and instrument in bio-medical lab and technological breakthrough the team has made in automatic MEIA testing and flow cytometry, Mayor Wang Anshun said that large medical equipment has long been dependent on import. It is necessary to enhance technological development and realize commercialization and industrialization of scientific achievements in medical detection technology so as to strengthen China’s core competence of self-dependent innovation. In front of experimental platform for optical fiber sensors, Wang Anshun carefully viewed experimental demo of aircraft load spectra detection system and real-time monitoring system of distributed optical fiber for high speed rail. He was also interested in smart materials and smart skin and communicated with lab staff on 3D demo and relating data.



After visiting the labs, Mayor Wang Anshun moved to Library hall of Jianxiangqiao campus where various works of scientific innovation of students are displayed. Academic Affairs Office Director Wang Xingfen offered a general introduction. Wang Anshun exchanged thoughts with students on their inspiration and thinking on scientific and technological innovation, funding resources of innovation and entrepreneurial choices, intellectual property rights of innovative achievements, and their future expectations. He kindly asked Cui Lin, a BISTU student member of UMAV Association “what are your future thoughts?” “We are looking forward to building up the world largest unmanned aviation vehicles research institute.” Cui Lin responded. With laughter, Mayor Wang Anshun said: “That is ambitious. I wish you success!” And then he saw brain-wave armchairs. When learning that the armchair could be controlled by brain wave, he told the students that “this is a great project. You shall spare no efforts to developing it. When I become a senior citizen I would be your customer.” The next BISTU achievement attracting the Mayor’s attention is Fast Energy Vehicle. He was told that BISTU Fast Energy Team has won four championships in a row in best technology of HONDA energy-saving contest, i.e., 1 L of gas could sustain 936 km and 1KW electricity could keep the car running for 354KM. The Mayor then said that “in addition to winning in competition, we shall work harder to turn fabulous thoughts into reality. I am expecting your fast energy cars to be translated into real, actual productive force.” “The young people are driving force of scientific and technological innovation. They shall be bold in scaling the heights of science, diligent in learning and research, and enhancing comprehensive scientific innovative competence so as to contribute to national prosperity and development of the Capital.” Added Wang Anshun.

In Auditorium of Jianxiangqiao Campus, Mayor Wang Anshun delivered a report titled Comprehensively Enhancing Competence in Scientific Innovation and Building up New Layout for Innovation-driven Development, centering on scientific and technological innovation, with the focus on rise and fall of Chinese nation, and based on actual situation and practice of capital economic development. He introduced a series of statements on scientific innovation proposed CPC led by President Xi Jinping, the thinking on development strategy of integration of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, policy and financial support of the Municipality with scientific innovation, and talent reserve, market environment, and cultural atmosphere of Beijing in scientific and technological innovation. In his report, he listed great contributions made by the Chinese nation to the world and pointed out that Chinese nation is bold in and capable of innovation. In the new times with fresh conditions, faculties and students were encouraged to actively engage in innovation and entrepreneurial choice where they would realize their dreams and fulfill themselves as well as contribute to realization of Chinese dream. His report is both humorous and lively, with rich content and exact data. He also constantly encouraged BISTU students and faculties to engage in innovation and entrepreneurial choice and serve the strategic demand of capital social and economic development and development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei. The whole report is very inspiring and offering a guideline for scientific and technological innovation at BISTU.

It is not until 6pm of the day the Mayor ended his survey. During the survey, Mayor Wang Anshun also observed schooling conditions of BISTU. He fully recognized BISTU’s achievements, despite of relatively tight conditions, in innovation, development, and moral education. His survey produced more than even encouragement for BISTU students and faculties. Zhang Zilong, a student of 1205 at School of Communication Engineering, said that the Mayor’s report further enhanced his understanding of innovation and entrepreneurial choice. Starting a business is not a job done in café but a mission to be first accomplished in mind. Vice Dean Lou Xiaoping of School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering extended his gratitude to the Mayor for his concern on lab conditions, schooling conditions, and construction of the new campus. He expressed that he will work even harder to translate research achievements into productive force and serve economic development via scientific innovation.
When expectation is laid, future hope is also hatched. Encouragement and expectation of Mayor Wang Anshun will be converted into powerful propellers for development of BISTU and stimulators for faculties and students in fully implementing “five major principles of development”. BISTU is determined to meeting new challenges and receiving fresh successes, with passion of innovation, dedication to perseverance, and perfect skills, so as to successfully realize transformational development and make even greater contributions to capital social and economic development.
