Beijing, 24th May 2023 (BISTU)--- Sponsored by BISTU School of Foreign Studies and organized by B-CAT society of the School, “Opportunities for Students of Translation in GPT Times” was successfully held online on 22nd May 2023. All students majoring in translation and faculties interested in translation technology attended the seminar.  

As an educator in translation and an expert in translation technology, Chair Han Lintao of Translation Department of Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI) at Beijing Foreign Studies University showed students applications of GPT in translation, GPT-aided translation, and how to better utilize ChatGPT to complete translation works. He commented that college students majoring in translation should work hard on English while strengthening comprehensive competences--- including abilities in using information technology--- so as to become a competent professional able to make better use of technologies and capable of applying AI technology to more challenging missions. During the Q&A session, Prof. Han commented that BISTU students were more familiar with machine-aided translation since they have learned advanced mathematics and programming.  

The seminar offered a deeper understanding of development of students majoring in translation in GPT times. “Presentation of Prof. Han showed multi-functions of AI-aided translation system. As students majoring in translation, we should learn more about this and try various translation tools. We are confident that technology will not replace us, though these tools are increasingly powerful. We are to control AI instead of being controlled by AI.”Li Pengyang said.
