UWP Delegation Visiting BISTU

Beijing, March 20th, 2014(BISTU)--- Prof. Han Qiushi, Vice President of BISTU met University of Wisconsin Parkside (UWP) delegation led by Vice Chancellor and Provost Prof. Fred Ebeid. Both institutions exchanged ideas of furthering collaboration.


Prof. Han Qiushiwarmly welcomed the guests by introducing the progresses BISTU has made in the past year, with stresses on postgraduate education and scientific research. He mentioned that BISTU has made a series of breakthroughs in the field of scientific research. BISTU was granted 120 million RMB annual funding for 2013, and undertook a number of state level key research projects.  In respect of graduate education, Prof. Han Qiushi pointed out that BISTU has signed and implemented joint doctoral degree programmes with seven universities in US, UK, Ireland, Japan, and Sweden. The first cohort of doctoral students are now under joint supervision of BISTU and University of Fukui, Japan. He hoped that more postgraduate students would benefit from the mutual exchange with international partners.

Prof. Fred Ebeid offered an introduction to UWP. He explained the recent reorganization of faculties of management, economics and management information system. These faculties have been merged into a new college---College of Business, Economics, and Computing. This provided conveniences for future exchange and communication between UWP and BISTU. He specially talked about international exchanges at UWP and said that attracting students from all over the world to study with UWP has become the best choice for broadening global horizon of its students. It was of great help with preparing students to be successful in their professional, civic, and personal lives---one of its vital missions. He also spoke highly of BISTU exchange students with regard to their performance at UWP.


A seminar on studying at UWP followed the meeting. Students from School of Information Management obtained detailed information on subjects and international exchanges at UWP. Prof. Fred Ebeid said the relatively small scale of UWP ensured its students with more attention from and communication with professors. The low cost and time-efficient arrangement between the two universities again opened new channels from students who want to pursue a US degree.

As one of the major US partners of BISTU, UWP has long been cooperating with School of Economics and Management and School of Information Management in the field of 3+1 dual degree programmes, 3+1+1 bachelor-master degree prgorammes, and short-term exchanges.

Also present at the meeting are Prof. Wang Xingfen, Director of Academic Affairs Office, Prof. Ge Xinquan. Dean of School of Economics and Management, Prof. Li Chen, Dean of School of Information Management, and Prof. Lu Jing, Director of International Cooperation Department.
