Oakland University and BISTU Signed Agreement on Global Education Project of Computer Programs

Beijing, 13th September, 2061 (BISTU) --- Vice President Xu Baojie met with Oakland University led by Prof. Louay Chamra, Dean of School of Engineering and Computer Science. Both institutions discussed on joint doctoral programs and reached agreement on conducting Global Education Project for students at School of Computer science. 

 

 

Following his warm welcome to the delegation, Xu Baojie introduced Global Education Project, a project of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education aiming at nurturing highly qualified, internationalized intellectuals. The long established friends from Oakland University have contributed tremendously to the Project at BISTU. The rapid progress enabled the University to win more grants from Beijing Municipal Commission of Education. Said Xu Baojie. He also hoped that both institutions could work even closer together to perfect Global Education Project and to communicate on joint doctoral programs.  

 

 

Prof. Chamra pointed out that a successful cooperative project requested strong support and great effort of both parties. He owed thanks to BISTU for the effort and support  offered. The students, fully sponsored by Beijing Municipal Government, have added color and vitality to Oakland campus. And the University will, as it always is, support the Project. He expected to perfect this Project by collecting feedbacks and communicating with BISTU faculties. Then Xu Baojie and Chamar signed agreements which stipulated details of conducting Global Education Project in the area of computer.  

After the signing ceremony, Chamar and Prof. Wang Xingfen, Director of Academic Affairs Office, discussed the details. With regards to the plan proposed by Academic Affairs Office that deadline of application at Oakland University be postponed so that BISTU student could be better prepared, Chamar said he would try his best and could guarantee that students who could meet the entry requirements by the end of July still would get acceptance letter, which means students could take TOEFL or IELTS in July. Chamar expressed that he would like to share resources at Oakland University to offer free summer language program for BISTU students.

Prof. Claudia Petrescu, Dean of postgraduate school discussed with Wang Jiuhe, Vice Dean of BISTU Postgraduate School, on joint doctoral program.  Petrescu offered an introduction to BISTU students who have graduated from, or are learning with Oakland University master programs as well as new policy on language requirement for postgraduate programs. She said that Oakland University will continue to work on the program of joint doctorate degrees and will try to break the ice as soon as possible.  

 

 

 The delegation also met and talked with 24 students of Global Education Project of BISTU. Chamar introduced programs and entry requirements and encouraged the students to work hard on both English learning and accumulation of professional knowledge. Once also an international student, Chamar also shared his experiences and life of learning in another country.  

The meeting and discussion was also attended by Oakland delegation members Assistant to Dean of Engineering and Computer Science School, Gary Barber, international project officer of the School, and BISTU faculties, including Director of Academic Affairs Office Wang Xingfen, Executive Deputy Dean of Postgraduate School Wang Jiuhe, Dean of Computer Science School Li Ning, and Director of International Cooperation Department Lu Jing.
