Beijing, 17th October 2023 (BISTU)--- President Guo Fu met with Oakland University delegation headed by Dean Louay Chamra at School of Engineering and Computer Science on 16th October 2023 at Taihanglu Campus.
On behalf of the University, President Guo Fu extended warmest welcome to the delegation and offered a brief introduction to the University with focus on construction and relocation of the New Campus. Guo Fu pointed out that Oakland University is one of the closest friends of BISTU. Both institutions are engineering-oriented and could find similarities in quite a number of academic disciplines, which laid a solid foundation for fruitful cooperation. It was expected that collaboration would be enhanced in academic research and faculty exchange based on current joint program on student nurturing.
Dean Louay Chamra thanked for the warm reception and extended congratulations to relocation of the New Campus. He expressed that the New Campus would offer great support with the university education in a holistic manner while improving international reputation and influence of the University. He spoke highly of the outstanding performance of BISTU students currently studying at Oakland University and said that Oakland University would offer all possible help and support with BISTU students in pursuing master or doctoral degrees. Dean Louay Chamra sent cordial invitation to President Guo Fu for a keynote speech on the coming graduation ceremony of Oakland University.
Vice President Xiao Zhisong expressed that BISTU and Oakland University were cooperating in a wide spectrum of areas with great effectiveness and achievements. The cooperation went very smoothly even during the covid-19 quarantine. He extended thanks to Oakland University and Dean Louay Chamra for their support and effort and expected that both institutions would strengthen collaboration in joint-running programs on undergraduate and postgraduate level, expand the scope and scale of cooperation, and explore feasible programs for doctoral degrees.
Administration Committee Meeting for OU-BISTU Joint Master Program was also held by both institutions, followed by a meeting on joint-cultivation in undergraduate programs to discuss details of collaboration.
The Oakland University delegation members included Prof. Gary Barber (China Program Coordinator) and Prof. Lianxiang Yang. The meetings and discussions were attended by Dean Dong Mingli of School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, Dean Cao Lin of School of Information and Communication Engineering, and Director Qu Li of International Cooperation Department (Dean of International Education School).
