A series of academic reports delivered on International Forum on Training Excellent Talents & Enhancing Social Contribution by President Liu Gonghui, Vice president Xu Baojie and Dean Su Zhong of School of Communication.

President Liu Gonghui’s “An Approach to Training Excellent Talents” explored diathesis requirement and standards for excellent talents. He explained the efforts that BISTU has made to achieve such an objective. He believed that the social standard of talent is the integration of social responsibility, innovation consciousness and international vision. Capability standard consisted of communication and cooperation skills, applied learning skills, the ability to overcome difficulties, and the competence of locating and seizing opportunity. President Liu Gonghui said that not all of the talents were from colleges and universities, but most of them were highly educated. And hence higher education was irreplaceable for training talents. It might be true that colleges and universities could not make students become talents immediately upon graduation, but university would be the most important stage in their lives, where they were offered great potential and necessary knowledge. Therefore, colleges and universities should design their own education systems and training modes, impart students knowledge, train their ability and form accurate conception as required. A college or university could not cultivate all talents, because society demanded various types and levels of talents. A college or university must select correct educational objective and confirm its own, fittest types and levels.
In the report titled “To cultivate college students innovation ability exploration and practice”, VP Xu Baojie focused on the significance of innovation for a country’s development. He said: “Innovation is the soul of national progress and inexhaustible power for country’s prosperity.
