President Liu Gonghui meets UAS Jena President Gabriele Beibst

Beijing, 27th April, 2015(BISTU)--- Expansion of cooperative areas was just explored between BISTU President Liu Gonghui and UAS Jena President Gabriele Beibst and his delegation during their second visit to BISTU. Witnessing fast progress of cooperation programmes between both universities, Professor Gabriele Beibst is also honorary professor of BISTU and honorary member of BISTU Academic Affairs Committee. Vice President Feng Xichun attended the meeting.  

 

President Liu Gonghui offered an introduction to recent progress of BISTU. It is the final year of 12th Five-year Plan and BISTU is transferring from a teaching oriented university to a teaching and research oriented one. In addition, the University spared no efforts to develop international education. Joint doctoral programmes have been established with 7 international partners. Cooperative lab was also set up with internationally famous universities. And cohorts of students have been sent abroad to attend exchange programmes. UAS Jena is one of the friends with whom BISTU has been working for a long time. By far over 50 BISTU students have studied with UAS Jena. It is hoped that more courses and broader areas could be explored by both institutions. Said President Liu Gonghui.  

With regard to recent progress at UAS Jena, President Beibst also informed latest news of the meeting. Though an institution focusing on industrial engineering, UAS Jena newly established a health care school, who cooperated with other schools to develop a number of cross-disciplinary technologies and equipment. When discussing on faculty exchange, President Beibst expressed that UAS Jena would consider sending faculties, especially those in the area of mechanical engineering, to BISTU for exchange and communication purpose.   

In addition, President Beibst said it has been ten year since the two institutions started working together. And it has also been ten happy, fruitful years. In the future, new cooperation programmes should be development and new areas explored, such as joint doctoral programme. Professor Huang Min, Dean of BISTU School of Electromechanical Engineering, expressed that the School would like to collaborate with UAS Jean in two fields, i.e., New Energy Science and Mechanical Electronic Engineering. Further cooperation was also expected in the area of robot studies and monitoring.  

Supervisor of UAS Jena International Office Förster mentioned that German language proficiency remained a major obstacle for students to study with UAS Jena. She suggested that students would learn Germany in China and manage to pass TestDaF before they choose to attend UAS Jena. This would save them a year’s time in learning language in Germany and also help them better understand the academic courses.   

The meeting and discussion were also attended by Prof. Wang Xingfen, Director of Academic Affairs Office, Prof. Wang Jiuhe, Vice Dean of Postgraduate School, and Prof. Huang Min, Dean of School of Electromechanical Engineering.
