Beijing, 9th August 2022 (BISTU)--- As one of a hundred social practice teams among Beijing-based universities, “Intelligent Fishpond- Informationization of Aquaculture and Agriculture” supervised by Associate Professor Liu Qiong of School of Automation, returned from their trip to Changde of Hunan Province in early half of August.  

The team was well received by Youth League Committee of Changde City and meetings were held between team members and Executive Deputy Secretary Wu Yaqian of the Youth League and Director Li Yuhua of Administration Office of the League. An agreement on collaboration in respect of rural revitalization has been signed to promote rural development in the area.  

The day of 1st August 2022 saw the team members arrive at Zhanmaohu Village, Xidongting District of Changde City. In a 2-hectare pond for soft-shelled turtles, the members learned that the owner of the pond has been troubled by problems of water quality and night patrol. Soft-shelled turtle had to be raised in pond of fine water quality. Current water quality testing methods were basically based on personal experience, which was not reliable and would possibly result in great losses. Meanwhile, the necessary patrol during nights remained a problem for these farming households.  

The members proposed an idea of “Intelligent fishpond” and invested quite some efforts in building up systems, researching on algorithms, and installing hardware and software. Finally the Intelligent Fishpond was successfully built. As of now, the system could conduct all-weather round-the-clock automatic test and send off alarms on criticality in respect of temperature, level of dissolved oxygen, and safety environment. Further improvement of the system was still ongoing to enhance efficiency of the pond.  

Team members also hosted two seminars on intelligent fishpond for local farmers and delivered a technological report for over 70 technicians of Dabei Nonghuayou Aquaculture Group themed on “Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Argiculture”.  

The team has successfully combined class learning with social practice and has made due contributions to rural revitalization. They were implementing the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on rural revitalization with their wisdom and actions.
