BISTU Ministerial Level Innovative Team on Opto-electronic Information and Instrumentation Successfully Approved

 

Beijing, 1st July, 2016(BISTU)--- Guided by Ministry of Education, experts organized by Beijing Municipal Commission of Education appraised BISTU's ministerial level innovative team on onto-electronic information and instrumentation. The experts, led by Academician You Zheng of Chinese Academy of Engineering, include Prof. Zeng Zhoumo from Tianjin University, Prof. Jin Yufeng from Peking University, Prof. Guo Lei from Beihang University, Prof. Zhao Weiqian from Beijing Institute of Technology, Prof. Yu Liandong from Hefei University of Technology, and Prof. Cai Yanlong from Zhejiang University. The meeting, hosted by Vice President Han Qiushi, is also attended by President Wang Yongsheng, directors of Beijing Municipal Education Commission and faculties of the team.  

 

President Wang Yongsheng extended warmest welcome to experts and distinguished guests. Following a brief introduction to BISTU, he delivered a statement on construction and development of the team. The Team remains a model for research, discipline construction and education at BISTU. The University will offer continuous, increasingly strengthened support with the Team. Said Wang Yongsheng. And he thanked the experts for their support with the team and mentioned that advice and suggestions were more than welcome for the team.  

 

The appraisal meeting was presided by Academician You Zheng. Team Head Zhu Lianqing delivered a detailed report to experts on five aspects, i.e., team development and platform construction, innovative competence and social contribution, talent nurturing and combination of research and teaching, team culture and operation, and planning of team development. After listening to answers to questions raised by experts, it is generally accepted that the team has features and strengths in three pathways: optical fiber sensors and options-electronic instruments, optimal-electronic and visual detection and measurement technology, and testing and detection technology of biomedicine. The team has conducted researches on testing of aircraft load, testing of satellite parameters, inertia-sensitive instruments. Measurement of large-size dynamic photography, testing of digital electron shear speckle, advanced medical instruments, etc. Three platforms have been established: sensor and system, precision measurement, and medical instruments. These researches have substantial scientific implications and great social economic value. The team, with support of a number of key labs, has developed quite a few new technologies and methods and produced solutions to projects in the area of aeronautics and astronautics and medical science. The team has been awarded over 50 million Yuan fund for research, won 7 provincial level awards, been approved 42 invention patents (inclusive of 7 in the US), and published 211 essays (including 86 listed by SCI or EI). The team also actively conducts international collaboration and introduces a number of globally famous experts. Also, the team lays focus on both research and education and has gathered around and nurtured a group of innovative talents. Comprehensive management system has been established in an open operation mode with emphasis on cultivation of young faculties' innovative competences and collaborative research. And it is agreed that the team, with remarkable achievement, has reached expected target and it is a reasonably structured, strong in innovative competences team. The experts suggest that the team targets construction of world class disciplines and strengthens cooperation with fundamental disciplines, with support from the university and the Ministry.  

 

Gao Runsheng made a positive comment on development and achievements of the team in past three years and shared three ideas for further development of the team. Firstly focus shall be laid on prospect of the team and the University, based on guidance of national science innovation meeting. The team shall, with solid foundation of science and technology, mount to new heights and hold onto the pathway of innovation. Reform is to be deepened and collaboration strengthened. Secondly, emphasis is also to be put on innovative strength based on the five principles of development. Construction of grand platform shall be strengthened in universities for cross-disciplines and international collaborative innovation. And thirdly, mechanism for science management shall be reformed. A system of steady support shall be built to establish sound atmosphere for innovation and academic development. 

 

On behalf of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Zhang Xianguo extended thanks to the Ministry and the experts for their support and suggestions. He said that the Commission would offer continuous support with the team. It is hoped that the team make further progress in near future with guidance of experts to contribute more to social and economic development of Beijing Municipality.  

 

Zhu Lianqing expressed that the team's success owes much to care and support of all leadership and experts. The team will carry forward to mount further heights.
