Beijing, 23rd December 2022 (BISTU)--- “Enhancement of globalized education”, the theme seminar on Sino-foreign cooperative programs, was held via video links by BISTU on 22nd December 2022. The Seminar was attended by faculties, staff and students of BISTU and Oakland University concerning the cooperative program between the two institutions.
BISTU invited Director David Archbold of International Students and Scholars Office and Professor Gary Barber, Director of International Programs at School of Engineering and Computer Science of Oakland University, to jointly offered lectures on the Seminar on globalized qualities and cross-cultural communication. Sharing challenges and corresponding responses in learning at US universities, David Archbold also explained on the Seminar how to compose a CV, what globalized qualities are required in today’s world, and how to enhance globalized qualities. Gary Barber chaired a discussion on raising effectiveness of cross-cultural communication.
The Seminar was proposed by BISTU Postgraduate School and co-organized by School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering and School of Information and Communication Engineering. It was aimed at broadening global horizon of postgraduate students and improving their comprehensive competences in innovation. Two seminars have been organized earlier this year respectively themed on “International academic cooperation” (27th September) and “How to cultivate innovative competences in practice teaching” (27th November).
The seminar on 27th September 2022 saw valuable suggestions and experiences shared by Prof. Zhu Jiang, Prof. Liu Yuan, and Associate Professor Gong Yi on globalized learning, academic research, and international cooperation and exchanges in respect of living abroad, communication with local people, joining academic organization, participating in academic activities, and caring for one’s health.
The seminar on 27th November welcomed Professor Gary Barber, Director of International Programs at School of Engineering and Computer Science of Oakland University. With cases of the US universities in innovation-based education, he shared experiences on how to strengthen innovative competences of students and focused on the effectiveness of team spirit in this regard. In-depth discussion was then conducted between BISTU professors and Prof. Gary Barber on ABET accreditation, team collaboration, flipped classroom, etc.
The series of seminars attracted more than 200 participants and have played an important, positive role in broadening global horizon of postgraduate students and strengthening their globalized qualities.
