Beijing, 28th September 2023 (BISTU)--- “Key technologies and applications of UAV in power transmission line inspection”, a project with BISTU as the first author and associate profession Li Fudong of New Energy Department of Electromechanical Engineering School as a core member, won a second prize of innovation granted by China Electricity Council on the 2022 annual commendation conference.
The project, commenced four years ago, targeted at innovative research in respective of standardization of UAV inspection in high voltage power transmission lines, identification of critical point of security, identification of minimum security distance, accurate positioning of hidden dangers concerning trees and bamboos, and autonomous barrier avoidance in complex environments. The UAV system the project developed has been applied to high voltage power transmission lines in Hunan, Yunnan, and Guizhou. It can evidently lower labor costs, improve the accuracy of bamboo and tree identification, and comprehensively enhance working performance of UAVs.
Innovation Award on Electricity Science and Technology was approved by Ministry of Science and Technology and granted by China Electricity Council on annual basis. Winning the honor symbolized a breakthrough in school-enterprise cooperation in electric industry.
Owing to outstanding performance of the Project, BISTU was invited as a major member to draft IEEE P1936.4 Technological Standards for Maintenance of UAVs in Inspection of Power Transmission Lines, an international standard for UAV inspection of power transmission lines. Li Fudong was appointed Vice Chairman of the Standard Committee led jointly by China Electricity Council and State Grid.
