Global Presidents Meet at BISTU

More than 20 university presidents attended a forum on cultivating excellent talents and enhancing social contribution in Beijing Conference Center on International Forum on Training Excellent Talents & Enhancing Social Contribution (TETESC) hosted by BISTU.  

TETESC was co-organized by the Capital Higher Engineer Education Research Center and Zhongguangcun Science and Technology Park Committee, focusing on improving the university talent quality and discussing on how to cultivate excellent engineers and management talents. It also emphasized on ways of enhancing university social contribution. Three key topics have been fully explored on the forum, namely, cultivation of excellent engineers and management talents, integration of industry-academics-research-and-application of technology so as to enhance university’s social contribution, and innovation of teaching management.

The forum invited scores of university presidents and famous educators from US UKGermanyJapanIrelandSweden and Taiwan region,etc , to present keynote speeches. Experiences were shared between universities and corporations in respect of school-enterprise cooperation.   

President Liu Gonghui hosted grand opening ceremony. Prof. Zheng Junli, Chairman of University Council, welcomed all his excellencies and honoured guests with a warm presentation on BISTU. Presenters of the forum also included Prof. Ciarán Ó Catháin, President of Athlone Institute of Technology Ireland, Dr. Chung-Jen Chin, President of Chaoyang University of Technology; Prof. Zhang Xinxin, President of University of Science and Technology Beijing; Mr. Ji Yichao, student of BISTU School of Computer Science; Mr. Zhang Jingdong, President of Guoao Holding Co., Ltd.; Prof. Wang Rufang, Vice Director-General of Zhongguangcun Science and Technology Park Committee; and Prof. Jiang Peimin, Director-General of Beijing Municipal Education Commission. 

Prof. Ciarán Ó Catháin focused on entrepreneurial spirit and introduced what Athlone Institute of Technology has done to cultivate talents with such spirit. Dr. Chung-Jen Chin shared in his thoughts on higher education management, including prime mission in university and a university ensuring contribution as well as students’ learning objectives. Prof. Zhang Xinxin suggested that USTB could cooperate with BISTU on realizing technology dream of two institutions and making great efforts to achieve Chinese dream. 

Student representative Ji Yichao was ever reported by CCTV and the Morning News for his apple app Mammoth Browser and Peak Lab he founded. His entrepreneurial experience and prologue in fluent English aroused everyone’s concern. He said humbly: “I am not an excellent talent, so I am going to talk about my thoughts on talent cultivation and social contribution as a university students who has started a business.” He added that “It is those people who have made great contribution quietly in their proficient field to promote social progress…… They are true excellent talents because they are well up in one thing and equipped with basic knowledge in other areas.” He pointed out that creative talent training program of computer science and prominent technology launched by BISTU conformed to his growth and knowledge requirement. The academic program of BISTU was a significant help in his innovation and entrepreneurship.  

Zhang Jingdong reviewed passionately his school experiences over 20 years ago and its importance for his life. And then he talked about further development ideas of Guoao Group after Beijing Olympics. 

Wang Rufang expressed that the theme of forum gave universities and enterprises an important way to represent their own value and realize Chinese Dream of the great renewal of Chinese nation. Mr. Ji Yichao showed the hope of excellent talent training. 

Prof. Jiang Peimin confirmed BISTU’s contribution to capital construction. Then he said: “The international forum reflected the idea of opening education at BISTU.” He wished that all universities could communicate and discuss with each other to improve the teaching quality for higher education, scientific research and capability of training outstanding talents.
