As time passes by, we usher in the New Year and bid farewell to previous days. On behalf of BISTU, we cordially extend our greetings, most sincere thanks, and best wishes to you!

Moving forward in the New Era with dauntless spirit. Guided by the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress, The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has made perfect overall plans and led all Chinese people forward in the cause of the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.

The year 2023 saw endeavors of BISTU coupled with care, support, and love of supervising institutions, friends of all circles, and all BISTUers. We grow with development of our times and our nation while fostering virtue through education and strengthening quality of education. We have the resolution to build BISTU into a high level university of applied learning with distinctive features in information technology to the satisfaction of Beijing Municipality, students, faculties and staff, and alumni.

Upholding the Party’s overall leadership. We earnestly learn, publicize, and implement the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress, carry out the thematic education, and stand firm in our ideals and convictions. Aiming at “cultivating a fine work style, enhancing work capabilities, promoting development, and building first-class education”, we laid focus on “diligence and honor”. A guaranteed satisfactory solution system has been established. A list containing 102 issues concerning educational development has been confirmed, 47 pieces of campus services is now processed in an intelligent manner, and standards and reform have been implemented and conducted in all aspects. Faculties and staff have the courage to break unreasonable restrictions, shoulder their responsibilities, and become more cooperative. It is the reflection of BISTUers’ willpower and professional qualities and skills.

Strengthening educational quality for talent cultivation with unremitting efforts. We have strengthened ideological guidance, innovated educational patterns, perfected educational system, and built a full-set talent cultivation system incorporating bachelor, master, and doctoral education. We adopted high standards on building Marxism School, indicating that we have walked through the last mile of ideological and political education in talent cultivation. With continuous exploration in diversified models of talent cultivation, we have published the directive opinion for 2024 version curricula and programs and built a modern industry school themed on digital and intelligent industries. The year 2023 witnessed new achievements of the University: 7 state-level first-class undergraduate modules, 25 municipal-level awards in education and teaching, 812 awards of provincial or higher level, and record high scores of students in a number of competitions. Degree programs with information technology as the feature have been promoted, proved by the rising number of students registering in postgraduate entrance examination with BISTU as the prime choice (despite of the fact that the total number of students for postgraduate entrance examination has dropped this year). BISTU ranks top 2% (A+) in National University Robotics Competition Index. In addition to over 800 awards in academic subject competitions of provincial or higher level, BISTU students have hit a record high (in recent three years) in graduation employment and their salaries remain top 40 among all higher educational institutions of China. Quality of talent cultivation is constantly enhanced here at BISTU.

Laying emphasis on education quality and exploring the role of education in national development. Aiming to enhance inner drives and competitiveness of academic disciplines, we have built academic disciplines of strengths, optimized academic disciplines with features, and cultivated emerging cross-disciplinary disciplines. Six academic disciplines of BISTU were listed on “Shanghai Ranking the Best Academic Disciplines of China in 2023”, with Instrumentation Science leaping from the 21^st to the 14^th and engineering-disciplines remaining top 1% of global ESI. In addition to approval of the postdoctoral mobile station, approval of Master in Translation indicates that all BISTU schools are now qualified to award master-level degrees. With our efforts, strengths, and features, we have built a “Beijing Brand” in the field of electronic information. The past year has witnessed our efforts and achievements in reforming educational assessment to strengthen talent cultivation：1 BISTU faculty honored as a leading talent of National High-Level Talents Special Support Program, 1 honored as Beijing Scholar, and 8 ranked top 2% scientists of the world. Significant progresses have been achieved in both team building and academic discipline construction.

Providing better services to enhance innovation competence in an overall manner. We are conscious of the fundamental, strategic role of higher educational institutions as the binding point for education, science and technology, and talents. Centering on areas of strengths, we have conducted the organized researches and made substantial progresses: winner as the first author of MOE Technological Invention Award, approval of an MOE B-category key lab, a number of projects sponsored by key foundations including National Natural Science Foundation, and extensive application of our research achievements in the field of national economic development and industries. We have been integrating in municipal development, coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and future development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Our efforts and achievements are also shining in a number of fields. We have built a new-type platform for sensor verification, established a field teaching base of industry-school integration, jointly constructed a lab of intelligent security, joined “N Plus” Party Building and Innovation League of China Mobile International Information Port, contributed to “Quality development plan of BeiDou”, built Village-based Beijing Sci-tech Yard jointly with Miyun District, unveiled Nansha Photon Sensing Technology Institute, sponsored and organized various academic summits, and set up Data Intelligence Innovation R&D Base of State Key Laboratory of Media Convergence Production Technology and Systems while contributing to the Central Axis of Beijing’s application for World Heritage.

Bringing warmth to BISTU community with values and cultures. We have boosted construction of the New Campus, built an intelligent campus, improved university governance, and set up a dream theatre for all students and faculties. With emphasis laid on both content and format, we have optimized VI system of the University, published VI products and applications, promoted cultural and creative products, renamed some offices and buildings, and enhanced the sense of achievements and cohesion among all BISTUers. Hold up our original aspiration, we work hard for wellbeing of all students and faculties: a “one-stop” service hall for students, a baby care lounge, charging piles, shuttle buses to subway stations, free lunch for students attending entrance examination to postgraduate education, down jacket for those in need, interim dormitories for faculties……BISTU campus now is one with convenience and warmth.

Running education in an open-mind manner, expanding educational links, and joining global network of innovation. Outstanding carders, faculties, staff, and students have made their contributions to development of Xinjiang and Xizang and rural revitalization. A series of honors are reflection of their diligence and devotion: outstanding teams and individuals of social practices, Capital Labor Medal, the Most Beautiful Women Strivers of Beijing, and Pioneers of Education in Beijing. Their noble spirit is inspiring all BISTUers. We have made great progresses in a number of aspects: accredited as a civilized campus, passing the verification of green development, approved as one of the first cohort of intelligent campuses, high quality completion in party building, etc.

Dear faculties and staff, dear students, dear alumni, dear friends, despite of joys and sorrows on the journey, we would be happy to greet arrival of tomorrow as a new day. Still vivid in our memory is the past year when we embarked on the journey and encountered one after another barrier. With hope, resolution, and dedication, we made it and finally come over here. While harvesting the fruits of efforts, we know that our achievements would not be possible without care and support of all people and endeavor and diligence of all BISTUers. We would like to pay tribute and express the most sincere gratitude to you on this special occasion!

Time and tide always reward one’s diligence and intelligence. In the coming year, we would stick to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, adhere to the general principle of “establishing a better image, strengthening the cohesion, providing better service, and boosting development”, and make new progresses in all aspects!
