
Beijing, 10th June 2026 (BISTU)--- The Meeting on Revision of 2026 Undergraduate Program Curricula was held on 10th June 2026 at Shahe Campus of the University. The Meeting was addressed by President Guo Fu and hosted by Vice President Wang Xingfen.

Guo Fu discussed issues concerning revision of the undergraduate program curricula, reform of a complete credit system, and AI empowering education.
Guo Fu stressed that in the first place revision of the undergraduate program curricula is a good start for building a nurturing system for high-quality talents of applied learning. When the possibility comes that learning, memory, and even analysis and comprehensive innovation capabilities of machines could go beyond those of humans, the key to nurturing innovation potential is to arm students with the competence to find questions, explore them, and produce related solutions as well as the courage for trial and error. We are to build a new “AI plus education ecology” and promote development of AI plus PE, AI plus aesthetics education, and AI plus labor education. We are to promote the combination of science education and humanities education to build a cross-disciplinary curricular structure of multi-disciplines. And we are to strengthen the role of practical education to explore the possibility of replacing traditional graduation thesis with a comprehensive Capstone project.
Second, reform of a complete credit system shall be the starting point for an individualized “student centered” nurturing system. Revision of the current curricula aims at transforming talent cultivation from standardized procedures to individualized practices. We are to build “AI plus 5R” real learning scenarios, which would allow students to explore “real questions”, produce “real solutions” and obtain “real experiences” in a “real environment”. Learning fields of students are to be expanded to cover AI-related fields, our society, enterprises, and the whole world. Based on industry-education integration and science-education fusion, we are to build a new field of learning for students to nurture new-type high-quality talents of applied learning.
And third, AI-empowered education shall become the engine to boost innovation in class teaching and teaching models. We would re-construct the structure of credit hours, i.e., for at least each 32 credit hours, two hours of teacher-supervised online self-directed learning shall be arranged to build a mixed teaching paradigm of “online self-directed learning plus offline advanced research”. Teaching methods are to be innovated. Teachers are expected to introduce AI tools into classrooms for heuristic learning, research-based learning, and project-based learning. Freshman seminar courses shall adopt small-class, research-oriented teaching; the intercultural communication and social practice courses shall follow an integrated model of “online general education + offline practice + outcome evaluation”. And assessment is to be reformed. We are to increase the proportion of formative assessment, reduce the share of final exams so that every effort made by students can be tracked and recorded.
Guo Fu pointed out that revision of the undergraduate curricula is not just credit changes. Rather, it is a systematic re-configuration based on digitelligence empowerment, integrated innovation, and pursuit of excellence. We shall strictly control the total number of credits while adding assignments of various forms to make sure students would invest much more time in a certain course than they do in classrooms. We shall ensure that a nurturing system of “AI plus specialty courses” shall be seriously implemented, i.e., each program shall offer at least two or more embodied intelligence or AI plus specialty courses, two to three school-enterprise collaborative courses, and two to three English-delivered courses or bilingual courses. We shall highlight the features of the multi-dimensional reform of talent cultivation models. And we shall conduct the reform in a logical way. All programs shall have their own “program objectives – graduation requirements – curriculum system” alignment matrix and break down graduation requirements into specifics. Students shall be able to obtain credits from all teaching activities in which they are involved.
Guo Fu stressed that a complete credit system is not simply offering freedom in choosing courses. It is a systematic regime change covering all sectors of teaching and learning and an important reform of talent cultivation aiming at nurturing “new-quality talents in the fields”. We will allow students to select courses across different majors and grade levels, promote the early offering of graduate-level courses to undergraduates, and enable credit recognition between undergraduate and graduate programs. We will establish an “Undergraduate Advisory Office,” while requiring academic tutors to provide disciplinary guidance, academic support, research initiation, and academic career planning for students. Students may flexibly schedule their course-based practice activities. Our goal is to build a four-year, full-coverage project-based training model for innovative practice, which integrates open labs, innovation and entrepreneurship projects, research funds, tangible capstone projects, disciplinary competitions, spring break practice programs, summer schools, and more.

Wang Xingfen pointed out that revision of the undergraduate program curricula is a necessary for educational development in AI era and a necessary step for high-quality development of the University. She called for collaborative efforts of all BISTU colleges to make sure the curricula are revised with quality guaranteed.

Director Liang Xu of Department of Academic Affairs explained details concerning revision of undergraduate program curricula. She reiterated the philosophy of “digitelligence empowerment, integrated innovation, and pursuit of excellence” in revision.

Progresses with and thinking of the revision were shared by Dean Zhou Zhehai of College of Instrument Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, Dean Fan Junfang of College of Automation, Dean Li Xuehua of College of Information and Communication Engineering, and Dean Wang Aiwen of College of Applied Science.
The meeting was attended by all faculty of Department of Academic Affairs, directors of Graduate School, Department of Human Resources, Department of Student Affairs, Department of Admissions and Career Services, Department of Campus Security, CCYL BISTU University Committee, and deans and vice deans of BISTU colleges, department chairs, directors of laboratories, and teacher representatives.
