Beijing, 19th April 2026 (BISTU)--- Sponsored by the Graduate School and College of Applied Science of BISTU, the academic symposium on Equations of Fluid Mechanics was held from 17th to 19th April 2026 at Shahe Campus. The Symposium attracted experts, professors, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral students, and postgraduate students from over 20 universities and research institutions, including Peking University, CAS Academy of Mathematics and System Science, Beijing Normal University, Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, Capital Normal University, Minzu University of China, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, North China Electric Power University, Zhejiang University, Jilin University, Sun Yat-sen University, Central China Normal University, Sichuan University, Xiangtan University, Beihang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Anhui Normal University, Jimei University, Nantong University, and Chengdu University of Technology.

President Guo Fu addressed the opening ceremony. Following the warm greeting to experts and students, Guo Fu pointed out that equations of fluid mechanics, as one of the core areas in research on partial differential equations, have important theoretical and practical implications in meteorology, oceanography, aerospace, energy and other fields. Guo Fu stressed that BISTU is engineering-focused university with coordinated development of engineering, management, economics, literature, law, and other disciplines. It gains key support from Beijing Municipality and has distinctive feature in information technology. Recent years have witnessed effective efforts on academic discipline building in mathematics, i.e., approval of MS in Mathematics (a first-tier degree program) and strategic cooperation with Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications. He added that BISTU will follow the general development philosophy of “elevating image, strengthening cohesion, providing better service, and boosting development” and be committed to nurturing outstanding innovative talents in mathematics.

Academician Zhang Ping of CAS Academy of Mathematics and System Science addressed the opening ceremony. He pointed out that equations of fluid mechanics, especially Navier-Stokes equation and Euler equation, remained a core area of theoretical studies. It is a frontier field of pure mathematics and a touchstone for the depth of mathematical theories. He spoke highly of BISTU’s achievements in enhancing mathematical education. He proposed that the foundations for mathematics learning and research should be further consolidated, academic exchanges with teams home and abroad be strengthened, and interdisciplinary research be conducted between mathematics and other disciplines such as information technology and artificial intelligence.
In-depth discussions were conducted on latest theoretical progress, research methodology, and future development of equations of fluid mechanics. The Symposium successfully built a high-level platform of academic exchange and communication for scholars of equations of fluid mechanics and promoted development of mathematics at BISTU.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice President Wang Xingfen and attended by Executive Dean Li Zhuo of the Graduate School, Chairperson LI Wanfu and Dean Wang Aiwen of College of Applied Science.
