BISTU Held 2025 Commencement Ceremony

Beijing, 17th June 2025 (BISTU)--- The 2025 Commencement Ceremony of BISTU, held on 17th June 2025 at Shahe Campus, saw around 3,990 graduates with customized graduation gowns made by the University gathering together to celebrate their graduation. The Ceremony was attended by Chairperson Xie Jiangling of the University Council, President Guo Fu and all other senior administrators and was hosted by Vice President He Wei.

The Ceremony started with the solemn national anthem.

The warm campuses, late-night lights in the library, determined figures in labs, sweats on the sports field, earnest teachings of the faculty, laughter of peer students … … memories of warmth come to everyone present as the graduation-themed video “AI for Future” was played.

Xie Jiangling presented certificates of honor and gifts of graduation to winners of “Red Star Award” and encouraged them to shoulder responsibilities of our times and make greater contributions to our nation.

“Now you have successfully transformed from a ‘miner of knowledge’ to a ‘sword-forger in practice’.” Guo Fu said in “Using Knowledge to Build a Peaceful and Inclusive World”, the address to the Ceremony. He pointed out that the young generation is to redefine “success” and “responsibility”. He recalled the gene of peace of Chinese people, i.e., Zheng He’s treasure voyages to the West during Ming Dynasty in the principle of “modest receiving based on generous giving”, epitaphs of Persian merchants excavated in Quanzhou--- a proof of trade facilitating peace, and modern practices based on Confucianism world view and Daoist “non-contention”. “Mutual development is the best peace enforcement”. He emphasized. Facing with the “momentous transformation of the world”, Guo Fu urged graduates to become a global citizen in three dimensions.

Firstly, the peace can only be secured through strengths. China wants mutual development; China is strongly against hegemony. He said that students are the key in building a greater China. Secondly, students shall re-construct their cognition system and break themselves from the notion “superiority of a certain civilization”. Human civilization as a whole is composed of various parts. Each civilization is a unique reflection of human wisdom. Using the example of innovative breakthroughs achieved at Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Advanced Optoelectronic Devices and Systems by 55 leading global scholars and experts, he called for graduates to review and examine innovation with “Chinese coordinates of 5000-year-civilization”. Students shall see evolution of technologies and the advantages of combining eastern holistic thinking with western logical thinking. He said. And third, students shall take initiative in practice and compose a global narrative of peace. Each “native” on internet is a “freelance diplomat” for global peaceful narratives. There are multiple ways to join the global narrative: using Blockchain technology to establish a whole-chain digital archive for international aid; becoming a “translator of peace” to transform eastern wisdom, such as “breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting”, into visualized safety solutions; initiating a young people peace laboratory--- establishing a digital agricultural workshop in Africa to merge China’s intelligent irrigation technology with local nomadic culture; or building a workshop dealing with ocean debris in Malaysia via combining “harmonization of nature and humanity” with marine ecological civilization. Students are capable of turning peace narratives as a concept into true, palpable life scenarios. He added.

Guo fu extended sincere wishes to all graduating students: “Your graduation today is more a start of “civilization dialogue” than a ceremony. I hope that you will break the barriers of thoughts with your knowledge and create a peaceful world for the future! Please bear in mind ‘to ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth, to secure life and fortune for the people, to continue lost teachings for the past sages, and to establish peace for all future generations’”.

Representatives of graduates shared their accounts of academic and personal development. Wang Qian from College of Information and Communication Engineering recalled the experiences of attending state-level competitions and winning honors. Hu Kejun, a postgraduate of College of Automation, shared the experiences of supporting agricultural development with academic research. “Салам!(Hello)” from a Kyrgyzstan student, expressed his gratitude to BISTU for building “a bridge connecting different parts of the world”. Su Wen, a student-veteran and a graduate of College of Communication Arts and Sciences, reaffirmed his faith in serving the nation.

All graduating students joined singing “Future, Here I come” to express their resolution to write their future with fearless spirit.

Song Ying from College of Computer Science delivered a speech as faculty representative. She stressed that technology is the tool and mankind is the soul. Technology will truly serve the wellbeing of human kind only when humanistic care is embedded in algorithms. She hoped that students would maintain thirst for learning like a neural network, uphold their original aspirations like a block-chain, and work together for the future in the open-source spirit. True AI remains humanistic and a real breakthrough starts with passion. She added.

Wang Qiang, an alumnus graduated in 2011 and a winner of 2020 “Beijing Municipal Model Worker”, shared his thoughts on personal development. Success is the results of “the sense of orientation” multiplied by perseverance. “Grains of diligence will bring fruitful harvest through time.” Wang said.

Vice Chairperson Yu Shijie of the University Council announced the decision of the University on commending the winners of Outstanding Graduates and Red Star Award.

Vice President Wang Xingfen announced the decision of the University on awarding degrees to undergraduate students.

Vice President Xiao Zhisong announced the decision of the University on awarding degrees to postgraduate students.

Representatives of graduating students expressed their gratitude to faculty and staff members, their parents, counselors, class supervisors, and all people who have been helping and supporting them. “Their dedication and devotion enable us to enjoy the campus of warmth, calmness, and vitality.”

Vice President Zhang Jian presented the flag to 2025 Alumni Association. The University has established cooperative links with a number of companies, including China Merchants Bank, Huazhu Rewards, Sichuan Airlines, etc. to provided service with alumni.

Degree certificates were presented to graduates by all senior administrators of the University.

It is the day when 3,900 graduating students will embark on a journey with the philosophy “diligence in learning and honor for life”. They will make BISTU-marked contributions to construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The ceremony was also attended by second-tier professors, members of Academic Council of the University, members of Academic Degree Committee of the University, chairpersons and deans of BISTU Colleges, directors of BISTU departments, faculty representatives, alumni representatives, parent representatives, and all graduating students of 2025.
