Beijing, 2nd September 2026 (BISTU)--- Zhang Tao, Mayor of Zhangjiakou, visited BISTU on 1st September 2026. Chairperson Xie Jiangling of the University Council met with Zhang Tao and delegation members, i.e., Vice Mayor Yan Liyan, Secretary-General of Government Li Jia, Director Wang Yong of Education Bureau, and Mayor Zhao Tiecheng of Huailai County. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairperson Wang Wenjie of the University Council and Vice President Li Huatao.

Xie Jiangling expressed sincere thanks to Zhangjiakou and Huailai County for their long-lasting support with BISTU and affirmed fruitful progress of the cooperation between both parties. He pointed out that recent years have witnessed rapid growth of the University in respect of admissions quality, ARWU ranking, recognition of graduates, educational strengths, and social influence. He added that the 2nd phase construction of Zhangjiakou Campus would be a good opportunity for the University to work together with Zhangjiakou and to build a coordinated educational mechanism featuring “enterprise raising demands, government defining priorities, and university providing solutions”.

Zhang Tao reaffirmed educational achievements of BISTU and pointed out that academic strengths of BISTU is in high alignment with industrial development of Zhangjiakou. He expressed that Zhangjiakou would provide sufficient support with construction of Phase II of BISTU Zhangjiakou Campus and make sure all relating policies are sustainable and consistent. Huailai County would be committed to delivering full service support. The two parties should bring their respective strengths into full play and explore further cooperation in sci-tech innovation, commercialization of research findings, and university-local government industrial synergy. Zhang Tao added.

Astra Residential College delivered a report on industry-education fusion between BISTU and local governments. Both parties conducted discussions on construction of Phase II of Zhangjiakou Campus, talent cultivation cooperation, joint-building of research platforms, etc.

Zhang Tao and delegation members visited Shahe Campus, including the sand table, the exhibition of research achievements, the innovative laboratory of humanoid robots, the University Archives, and the University Library.

The event was also attended by officials of Zhangjiakou government and director and deans of the President’s Office, Department of Academic Affairs, Office of Industry Fusion, Institute of Advanced Technology Development and Research, and Astra Residential College.
