Beijing, 14th April 2025 (BISTU)--- Beijing Session of 2025 National Doctoral Students Academic Contest on Optics and Optical Engineering successfully concluded at Jiuxianqiao Campus of BISTU on 13th April 2025. The Contest was jointly organized by Light: Science & Applications, iCANX Association (International Consortium of Advanced Scientists) and the UNESCO "International Day of Light" Organizing Committee and co-hosted by Beijing Optical Society, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Technology, and Beijing Information Science & Technology University.
At the opening ceremony, Zhou Zhehai, Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School and Dean of the College of Instrument Science and Optoelectronics Engineering, extended warm greetings to attending guests, judging panel members, and participating students. Zhu Lianqing, Director of the MOE Key Laboratory of Photo Electronic Measurement and Testing Technology and Instrument, expressed gratitude to the Beijing Session organizing committee members for their dedication and efforts. Professor Cao Liangcai from Tsinghua University provided an overview of the Contest's background and historical participation data of the Beijing Session, shared reflections on the academic competition, and announced the official commencement of the event.
Beijing Session accommodated 25 doctoral students from Tsinghua University, BISTU, Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China University of Geosciences-Beijing, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Semiconductors of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The topics covered frontier researchers in the field of Advanced Light Source Technology, Computational Imaging Technology, Light Field Manipulation Technology, Laser Processing Technology, Optical Microscopy Technology, Fiber Optic Sensing Technology, and Advanced Display Technology.
The judging panel members included Prof. Zhu Lianqing, Prof. Li Yan from Peking University, Prof. Fu Shiyao from Beijing Institute of Technology, Prof. Wan Yuhong from Beijing University of Technology, etc. The Contests were chaired by Prof. Zhang Yan from Capital Normal University and Prof. Gui Lili from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
Prof. Zhang Zhigang from Peking University commented that contestants shall maintain an appropriate level of detail by focusing primarily on original research contributions related to research background and objectives. It is better to avoid excessive discussion of team-accomplished work. Additionally, it is necessary to ensure logical coherence by echoing the research questions concerning the background and objectives in the report. The conclusion should explicitly articulate the extent to which the research has addressed these initial problems.
Prof. Gui Lili from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications suggested that contestants should appropriately articulate the significance of their research and deliver well-structured presentations to help the audiences quickly grasp key information. This Contest not only evaluates participants' research capabilities but more importantly serves as an opportunity to hone their skills in systematically and concisely refining and presenting scientific work.
The Contests saw two winners of first prize, three winners of second prize, five winners of third prize, and fifteen winners of recognition award. Winners of the first prize, second prize, and third prize will join the national contest on behalf of Beijing Session.
Judging panel members and contestants visited the MOE Key Laboratory of Photo Electronic Measurement and Testing Technology and Instrument. Established in May 2018 with approval of Ministry of Education of China, the Lab focuses on core technologies, key devices, and instrument and systems concerning photo electronic measurement and testing in the field of aeronautics and astronautics, low-altitude economy, smart city, etc. Major research areas of the Lab include Infrared Detection Technology and Systems, Fiber Optic Sensing and Systems, Optoelectronic and Vision Inspection, Intelligent Sensing and Photonic Chips, etc.
