Beijing, 23rd April 2025 (BISTU)--- BISTU greeted the 30th World Book Day on 23rd April 2025 at Shahe Campus with the opening ceremony for the 8thCulture and Art Festival of BISTU. The event was attended by Chairperson Xie Jiangling of the University Council and President Guo Fu and was hosted by Vice President Wang Xingfen.
Xie Jiangling addressed the opening ceremony. Following warm congratulations to the opening and sincere thanks to all teachers and students working for the festival, he pointed out that libraries serve as hub for modern wisdom and traditional humanistic foundations and have become one of the landmarks for high-quality development. The cultural legacy of “investigating things to extend knowledge” and “seeking truth through empirical study” shall be carried forward though reading. Xie Jiangling stressed that the University has been building “a campus of warmth, vitality and calmness” and promoting a series of reading activities. Today marked the opening ceremony of the 8thCulture and Art Festival of BISTU. Future weeks would see a variety of cultural and artistic events. He encouraged students to paint a poetic vision with art as brush, where humanistic spirit and youthful vitality will shine in harmony. He added that students shall meld cultural confidence with the call of our times while striving to grow into a new generation worthy of national rejuvenation.
Vice Chairperson Yu Shijie of the University Council announced the winners Top Borrower award and presented them the certificates.
Vice Chairperson Xin Hongguang of the University Council announced the winners of the 2nd“Read together campaign” held in 2024 and presented them the certificates.
Wan Qing, a representative of winners and a student of Business School, shared her reading experiences.
Vice President Chen Xin announced the winner colleges of “Reading trendsetter award” and presented the certificates.
Vice President Xiao Zhisong announced the winner colleges of “Enlightenment reading prize” and presented the certificates.
Vice President He Wei announced the winner colleges of “Reading promotion merits” award and presented the certificates.
Vice President Li Huatao announced the winner colleges of “Information literacy excellence award” and presented the certificates.
Huang Jincan, a student of College of Communication Arts and Sciences and the first-prize winner of “Literary Voices - Recommendation & Recitation Competition 2025”, delivered a recitation performance.
“Stepping into the Dream: Relive the Red Mansions” performed by BISTU Drama Troupe virtuosity reveals singular aesthetic cosmos and reanimates literary legacy of A Dream of Red Mansions with contemporary theatrical brilliance.
To roaring cheers and applause, President Guo Fu officially kicked off the series of events for World Book Day at BISTU 2025 and the 8th BISTU Culture and Art Festival.
“Classics re-imagined: Campus of books” was jointly held by BISTU and Publicity Department and Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Changping District on the day.
Themed “Scripting the future we need”, the 8th Culture and Art Festival, initiated in April through December 2025, covers 60 events in cultural activities, art performances, sports, etc. Students will enjoy the opportunity of having in-depth dialogues for reading, participating in environmental protection practices, joining campus-based mini-marathon, and appreciating ethnic cultures in exhibitions.
The event was attended by Niu Zhiying, Director of Department of Publicity, Lin Guoce, Assistant to the President, Zheng Yanpu, Assistant to the President, directors and deans of BISTU divisions and colleges, and representatives of teachers and students.
