
Beijing, 3rd July 2026 (BISTU)--- The seminar on Frontier Technology and Innovation in Embodied AI and Embodied Navigation in Robotics was held by College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering recently. It was aimed to broaden students’ academic horizon and provide an understanding of frontier progress in robotics.
The Seminar greeted Yang Feichan, an alumnus of BISTU who is now the founder and General Manager of IQuotient Robotics, and Zhang Pengju, Associate Research Fellow of Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Yang Feichan graduated from BISTU in 2014 and has been working in AI for science and development of intelligent laboratory equipment. Zhang Pengju has made abundant research achievements in autonomous navigation for mobile robots and embodied intelligence perception.

Centering on “Embodied intelligence, AI for science and the next generation laboratories”, Yang Feichan explained core connotations of embodied intelligence and AI for science, offered an introduction to building intelligent laboratories and their application scenarios. He also explored innovative opportunities in the cross-disciplinary area of mechanical engineering and intelligent science and technology.

Centering on “Indoor and outdoor embodied navigation for mobile robots”, Zhang Pengju explained core algorithms and technical structure of embodied navigation. He also reviewed key technological points such as robot environment perception, path planning, and dynamic obstacle avoidance in indoor complex scenarios and outdoor unstructured scenarios.

The two experts provided constructive suggestions based on their research experiences. And they encouraged students to take initiative in learning cross-disciplinary knowledge in the field of intelligent robots, artificial intelligence, embodied intelligence, and intelligent control to gain comprehensive qualities in learning and research.
The seminars helped strengthen the connection between class learning and industry frontier research.
