Beijing, 18th September 2018 (BISTU)— The 11th International Underwater Robot Competition, held in Qingdao of Shandong Province, witnesses outstanding performance of BISTU students.
Eight members of G_Robot, a team of BISTU School of Automation, show their competence by four completely independently-developed underwater robots who attend underwater operations and underwater confrontations. The team, despite of fierce competition, wins runner-up of underwater operations, and runner-up of underwater confrontations as well as other rewards. Underwater operations request the teams to cable-control robots in completing a number of missions like dismantling and installing equipment, spinning the pans, fetching small balls, etc. Underwater confrontations refer to confrontations between two teams in the form of fighting for flags. These items test both development and operation competence of BISTU team. Says supervisors of the Team.
Four teams based on Artificial Intelligence Association of School of Computer Science show their talents in a number of items like underwater pipeline inspection, underwater-land coordination, underwater transportation, and water ballet and finally win two First prizes and two Second Prizes. It shall be noted that innovative solutions offered by our students have been adopted by EI conference. Team players are very active and hard working in preparations for the competition and have conducted thousands of discussions to find the best status in competing against other teams. International Underwater Robot Competition is an annual international competition in robot initiated by China in 2008. The 2018 Competition sets six groups, i.e., 2D simulation, engineering project, underwater operations, innovation and entrepreneurship, on-the-water garbage, and survival of entrepreneurs. It attracts around 100 universities, high schools and middles schools all over the country. The Competition is guided by Steering Committee of Innovation in Higher Educational Institutions of Ministry of Education, School-Industry Cooperation Section of UNESCO, and Qingdao Oceantec Valley Management Bureau and organized by International League of Underwater Robot, State Research Center for Software Engineering at Peking University, and Science and Technology Association of Qingdao Oceantec Valley Management Bureau.
