Beijing, 23rd October 2018 (BISTU)— Collaboration between BIST and UCC (University College Cork) is further deepened on the Meeting between BISTU Vice President Chen Gang and UCC delegation headed by Prof. John O’Halloran, Senior Vice President of UCC held on 22nd October 2018.
Following his warmest welcome and detailed introduction to BISTU, Chen Gang points out that collaboration between BISTU and UCC is fruitful and pleasant. Particularly rapid progress has been made in respect of exchanges of students and faculties. Friendship between two institutions has been further consolidated. It is hoped that content and size of collaboration between two institutions would be expanded and channels of collaboration be extended. Future focus should be shifted to joint academic research, establishment of joint labs, participation in inter-government research projects, and doctoral programs.
John O’Halloran says it is exciting to meet long-standing friends and make new friends at BISTU. He offers an introduction to basic information and strategic development plan of UCC. He points out that under the new historical background UCC attaches increasingly greater importance to academic disciplines such as computer science, big data, artificial intelligence, business information system, economics, management, and electrical electronic engineering. Academic disciplines of two institutions find resemblance with each other and thus there is a lot to explore in terms of future collaboration. He also offers information on a number of cooperative projects between the two institutions such as teachers training, joint doctoral programs, cultivation of talents in big data field, etc.
Joint doctoral programs, teachers training and overseas staff development, and academic collaboration in the field of big data are respectively introduced by Wang Jiuhe, Executive Vice Dean of Postgraduate School, Chen Xin, Director of Human Resources Office, and Dean Li Chen of School of Information Management. Both universities reach consensus in a number of cooperative fields including joint doctoral programs, faculty visit, research collaboration in big data and information security, and students exchange.
UCC Delegation is composed of Emma Connolly, Strategic Officer for China Region in International Office of UCC and representatives of UCC Beijing Office. The meetings and discussion is also attended by Dr. Lu Jing, Director of International Cooperation Department of BISTU.
