Beijing, 29th September 2018 (BISTU)— Prof. Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, President of Oakland University of the States is appointed BISTU honorary member of Academic Affairs Council on the ceremony of appointment where President Wang Yongsheng meets and talks with President Pescovitz on cooperation between the two institutions. The ceremony is hosted by Vice President Chen Gang.
Wang Yongsheng extends warmest welcome to President Pescovitz’s visit and warmest congratulations on her being appointed as President of Oakland University. He points out that the two institutions have achieved a lot in joint cultivation of talents. He also happily recalls meeting with BISTU students last year when he heads a BISTU delegation to visit Oakland. It is a pleasure to witness progress and achievements BISTU students have made. Says Wang Yongsheng. He adds that the two institutions are expected to further expand scale and scope of cooperation and strengthen cooperation in the field of humanities and science and technology. He is deeply convinced that collaboration between the two universities will go even smoother and make even greater achievements.
President Pescovitz emphasizes that BISTU is the most important Chinese partner of Oakland University in China. In academic discipline area, the two institutions have done very well in the field of engineering and computer science. More opportunities are to be explored in business management and other fields. The two universities have also done a good job in joint cultivation of students. And collaboration in academic research and faculty exchange will be strengthened. President Pescovitz comments that the two institutions will continue to enhance cooperation to make greater benefits.
Chen Gang introduces academic achievements of President Pescovitz and announces on behalf of the University that President Pescovitz is appointed honorary member of BISTU Academic Affairs Council. Letter of appointment and BISTU University badge are presented by President Wang Yongsheng. President Pescovitz expresses that it is one of the most important honors that she has received. As a “new member” of BISTU, she would love to work together with colleagues of both institutions for more possibilities of cooperation.
President Pescovitz took the President Office of Oakland University in July 2017. She was Vice President of Indiana University and Michigan University and has worked in a number of medical institutions and international corporations. She was Senior Vice President and President for US Medical Care of Eli Lilly and Company.
After the appointment ceremony, both institutions hold talks and reach consensus on joint doctoral degree programs, faculty exchange, academic research collaboration, and dual degree programs.
And President Pescovitz holds talks with students of external programs enrolled in 2018. On behalf of Oakland University, President Pescovitz warmly welcomes students to learn with OU and encourages students to communicate with Oakland University students to make a diversity on campus.
The Oakland University delegation members include Prof. Louay Chamra, Dean of School of Engineering and Computer Science, Prof. Yang Lianxiang, assistant to the Dean, and Prof. Gary Barber, Project Coordinator for China Projects. The meeting and seminar are attended by Xing Jishou, Director of Office for Scientific Research, Wang Jiuhe, Executive Vice Dean of Postgraduate School, Director Chen Xin of Division of Human Resources, Dr. Lu Jing, Director of International Cooperation Department, and Deputy Director Yan Jian of Academic Affairs Office.
