Beijing, 13th October, 2017 (BISTU)— Discussion on establishment of Municipal Lab of Optical Fiber Sensor and System at BISTU is held on Jianxiangqiao campus. The seminar is attended by Li Shanting, Deputy Director of Office for Scientific Research of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, BISTU President Wang Yongsheng, Vice President Chen Gang, Lab Director Zhu Lianqing, experts and scholars from Tsinghua University and TY-Space, management and faculties of School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-Electronics Engineering.
Expert Committee is chaired by Academician Li Zhongping of Chinese Academy of Engineering, together with Vice Chair of the Committee Academician Yan Chu of Chinese Academy of Science. Expert Committee members include experts and scholars from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, China National Machinery Industry Corporation Ltd (Sinomach),Tsinghua University, Peking University, Tianjin University, Beihang University, Chinese Academy of Science and Capital Normal University.
Introduction to the Seminar is offered by Li Shanting on experts of Committee and background, mission, vision, and achievements of the Lab. On behalf of BISTU, Wang Yongsheng extends warmest welcome to all present at the meeting. He points out that the Lab indicates a substantial move of Municipal Government in construction of science and technology innovation platform. BISTU attaches great importance to such high-end research platforms and actively works on them. For years faculties of School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-Electronics Engineering, represented by Prof. Zhu Lianqing, have been diligently working in the field of optical fiber Sensor and System and have made outstanding achievements. He kindly hopes that all experts and professors on the meeting could produce suggestions and advice for the Lab as well as for better service to be offered by the Lab.
Discussion session is chaired by Li Zhongping. Lab Director Zhu Lianqing delivers a report on construction of the Lab, covering background, planning, objectives, expected achievements, social and economic implications, research foundation, operation, management and logistics. Expert Committee conducts responsible inquiries on team building, development prospects, theoretical research, objectives orientation, and research features and produces invaluable suggestions. The discussion reaches consensus that the Lab is reasonably oriented with clear research objectives and sound foundation for continuing research. It has substantial implications for coordinated innovation in the area of optical fiber sensor technology. The Lab has sufficient teams and regulated rules and norms. It is qualified to be approved as a candidate for Municipal level Lab.
Wang Yongsheng gives thanks to expert Committee for their support and positive confirmation with BISTU platform for science and technology innovation. It is a great, encouraging event for BISTU that the Lab is evaluated as a quality candidate for Municipal Labs. The University will promote construction of the Lab with regard to valuable suggestions produced by experts. Innovative regimes and optimized management will be introduced. BISTU will also continue to improve the level of teaching and research to better serve social and economic development of Beijing. Beijing Municipal Labs serves as a coordinated innovation platform aimed at meeting key demands of Beijing’s social and economic development, bringing into full play of resource strength of universities in Beijing, and promoting coordination of government, industry, school and research. Any lab which are to be accepted as a Municipal Lab has to be evaluated twice respectively by experts on macro-level and professional level.
